“Tyre was a beautiful person and for this to happen to him is just unimaginable,” said Tyre Nichols mother RowVaughn Wells. #TyreNicholsMemorial
“The only thing that’s keeping me going is the fact that I really truly believe my son was sent here on an assignment from God and I guess now his assignment is done. He’s been taken home…”--RowVaughn Wells
“I want to thank all the community activists for being there for my family…the chief of police for acting swiftly, the district attorney, the state of Tennessee…I want to thank my lawyers…"--RowVaughn Wells
"I just need…that George Floyd bill…passed. We need to take some action because there should be no other child that should suffer the way my son did and all the other parents here that lost their children...." --RowVaughn Wells
"We need to get that bill passed because if we don’t, the next child that dies, their blood is going to be on their hands.”--RowVaughn Wells

Spent part of this week talking to undocumented women about how they're getting stiffed on wages and thinking about how much of my early working life was spent fighting men taking advantage of me because I was young and pretty and desperate and people thought I was stupid.
🧵/1
There is so much abuse in the work force and employers in sweat shops and produce places and restaurants all know how to scam workers who have no recourse. It's so awful, but the GOP thinks "socialism" is the problem, not corporatism. Employees have so little recourse.
🧵/2
So many movements were supposed to help us. What happened to #TimesUp? What happened to the #FightFor15? What happened to Biden saying 2yrs ago he would raise the minimum wage? It's still at $7.25 where it's been since 2009 when Pelosi raised it. What happened to Bernie?

“All he wanted to do was get home,” Reverend Al Sharpton said of #TyreNichols.
“Home is not just a physical location. Home is where you are at peace. Home is where you’re not vulnerable. Home is where everything is alright." #TyreNicholsMemorial
“He said, all I want to do is get home. I come to Memphis to say the reason I keep going is, all I’m trying to do is get home… I want to get where they can’t treat me with a double standard — I’m trying to get home. I want to get where they can’t call me names no more — "
— I want to get home. I want to get where they can’t shoot and ask questions later — I’m trying to get home. Every Black in America stands up every day trying to get home.”--Rev. Al Sharpton #TyreNicholsMemorial
They want the date of the girl's first period, how long between periods, how regular the cycle. Know that many girls stop menstruating when they are hyper-athletic.
When girls stop menstruating, schools can claim they are really trans and kick them off the team. I have reported on schools that have checked the medical records of girls whose athleticism is superior to their teammates all the way back to kindergarten to "prove" their gender.
There is ZERO reason to have this data on girls' menstrual cycles. This is to check sexuality, orientation and identity and control their bodies. It's a huge invasion of privacy and ACLU could take this on in between supporting Trump and Fuentes' 1A rights to social media.
Yikes. This guy thinks you are "feeble and ineffectual" at 75 and that if you aren't "contributing to society" you don't deserve to live. Straight up Nazi eugenics.
I presumed this guy was far right because he was on Smerconish. That he worked for Obama and Biden is very disturbing. But it says a lot about the current state of the administration's COVID response that this person was handling it. This thread is so awful.
In point of fact, people are living longer. Millions of people are doing well in their 70s, 80s, 90s. I have friends and family members who are among them. A great aunt who's nearly 100. Still plays Scrabble. Nancy Pelosi was our greatest Speaker--in her 80s. Biden. Bernie.
I wasn't expecting to start the day with this kind of encoded language as a cover story, but here we are. @TIME clearly had ⬜male editors read this and say, "This is great! We prefer the sound of OUR voices over those perky women, BIPOC, LGBTQ and disabled folks anyway!"
1/🧵
And therein a cover story was born in which those historically marginalized and suppressed voices are silenced for being "attention seekers." No. Activist voices in any given room are NOT attention-seekers or narcissists--we are the voices of the actual majority.
2/🧵
In the US women are the majority yet treated like a minority in every aspect of society. BIPOC represent 40% of the country and some states like California and Texas, more than half. There are 62M disabled Americans and nearly 10% of Americans identify as LGBTQ.
