Born on 22 March 1869, at Cavite El Viejo (now Kawit) to gobernadorcillo Carlos Aguinaldo & Trinidad Famy, Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy was seventh of 8 children, and the youngest of 4 boys. He was manager of the family's farms when his father died, & was into interisland trading.
Aguinaldo served as cabeza de barangay of Binakayan, Kawit, then capitan municipal of Kawit, & was involved in the Katipunan. Upon the coordinated open revolt in Aug 1896, he led the Katipuneros in Kawit as revo general.
The 1897 election at the Tejeros Convention secured Aguinaldo's prominence, as he was elected president of the revo gov, leading to a power struggle bet. him & A.Bonifacio that ended in a military trial & execution of the Bonifacio brothers in May 1897.
After a settlement w/ the Spanish gov through the Pact of Biak-na-Bato, & voluntary exile of Aguinaldo & co. to Hong Kong from Dec. 1897 to May 1898, Aguinaldo continued to be seen as a unifier, leading the resumption of the revolution in May, declaring independence on June 12...
... culminating in the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic on 23 January 1899, when he led as the republic's president. The republic's existence would be challenged by the Philippine-American War, w/c ended in his capture at Isabela in 1901.
He lived long enough to see the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1941, & its liberation. Eventually, the government he led would be officially recognized when the commemoration of Philippine independence was moved from 4 July to 12 June in 1962.

Born to Don Claro Recto Sr. of Rosario Batangas & Doña Micaela Mayo of Lipa, among 5 other siblings, 3 of whom died, Claro lived in a generation of great awakening. In 6 years time after his birth, #PH Revolution vs. Spain broke out.
Recto studied Latin at Instituto de Rizal in Lipa, Batangas from 1900 to 1901 & pursued Bachelor og Arts in 1905 at @ateneodemanilau, achieving the highest grade—maxima cum laude. He pursued Law in 1909 at @UST1611official & wrote for several newspapers to support his education.

After the assassination of Ninoy Aquino in 1983, int'l support on Marcos Sr. waned. It was in Nov 1985 that Marcos Sr. was interviewed in the David Brinkley's show & said: "... all these childish claims to popularity on both sides have to be settled, then I think...
"... we better settle it by calling an election... And we will invite the members of the American Congress to please come and see what is happening here. All this talk about fraud... that's sourgrapes."
Corazon Aquino, after much thought and consultation accepted the challenge.

Born to Santiago Bonifacio and Catalina de Castro, a tailor & a housewife, Andres was born the eldest of his siblings—Ciriaco, Procopio, Espiridiona, Troadio, & Maxima. Upon the death of their parents, Andres stood as breadwinner for the family.
First selling canes and paper fans, & juggling several jobs, Andres Bonifacio was employed as clerk & liaison for the British company Fleming & Co in Manila. He eventually became an agent of the company, but soon decided to switch to the German company, Fressel & Co.
#TodayinHistory in 1892, María Orosa, Filipina guerrilla fighter during #WWII, food technologist, pharmaceutical chemist, was born in Taal, Batangas #PH. She was the known inventor of Banana Ketchup, & the Palayok Oven. She died in the Battle of Manila in Feb 1945.

Born to Simplicio Orosa, a steamship captain, & Juliana Ylagan, as 4th of 8 children, Maria lived thru great upheaval, w/ #PH Revo vs. Spain that broke out in 1896, & Phil-Am War in 1899. Her father aided Aguinaldo in transporting troops & supplies.
After a year of studying in @upsystem, she became a pensionado scholar & studied in @UW in 1916 where she finished her bachelor & MA in pharmaceutical chemistry, including food chem. She juggled odd jobs to get by in the U.S., often a target of racism.

#TodayinHistory in 1872, 150 yrs ago, Clemencia López, feminist & Filipino independista, was born in Balayan, Batangas. She travelled to the U.S. during the PH-US War to negotiate the release of her detained brothers, & tell the American press #PH's desire to be free. LONG THREAD
The Lopezes of Balayan, Batangas were a wealthy family & a long-time reformist-turned-revolutionary supporters. Natalio Lopez supported moves that countered the corruption & abuses in the Spanish gov.
Natalio (died in 1886) & Maria Castelo had 6 sons-- Mariano, Lorenzo, Sixto, Cipriano, Manuel, Jose-- & 4 daughters--Andrea, Clemencia, Juliana, Maria. Not much is known about Clemencia bec true to social propriety expected of her gender at the time, she worked in the background.
