CPI(Consumer Price Index) measures the change in the price of goods and services consumed by households

WPI(Whole Sale Price Index) measures the change in the price of goods traded in wholesale markets.

3) If both CPI & WPI are measuring inflation, then why is CPI increasing while WPI is decreasing?

2 Reasons:

a) Composition is different

While there are some shared components b/w the CPI & WPI, each index encompasses a range of goods and services that differ from one another.

📉Good News for India's Economy: Trade Deficit Drops by 86% in Jan

Merchandise: Exchange of tangible goods, including raw materials, agricultural goods, & manufactured products.

Services: Exchange of intangible services (fin services/tourism/transportation)

3) The primary factor contributing to the decrease in the overall trade deficit was a significant increase of 49% YoY in service exports.

🌐"UPI Goes International: Travelers from Abroad Can Now Use UPI!"

1) UPI is a technology that allows users to link more than one bank account in a single smartphone app and make fund transfers without having to provide IFSC code or account number

2) A foreign national visiting India can now use UPI to pay for goods and services in a matter of seconds, as per the permission granted by the RBI.

3) Initially, this service will only be available in selected airports of India for visitors from G20 nations.

4) How this will work?

A foreign visitor arriving in India can visit a bank kiosk available on airports, where they can make payments to that bank in their own currency.

The bank will then create a wallet linked to UPI apps like Google Pay or PhonePe on the visitor's phone.
