Forgetting non-stun processes for a moment, most know that the majority of slaughterhouses in Australia use "stunning" (the rendering of the animal insensible). Field study estimates of efficacy of bolt gun stunning for cows vary from 2% to 0.1% failure (including those found by a revered consultant to the Meat and Livestock industry, Dr Temple Grandin). And the truth here is that even if every slaughterhouse employed stunning, at the LOWEST estimate, 20 adult cows and 2 bobby calves will not be successfully rendered unconscious and unable to feel prior to slaughter, they will feel their throat slit open, in Australia, every day.
At the HIGHEST estimate, 400 adult cows and 40 bobby calves will not be successfully rendered unconscious and unable to feel prior to slaughter, they will feel their throat slit open, in Australia, every day.

If not stunned, they can be aware, for up to 5 minutes.

By 5 minutes, the skin has been sliced off their hind legs.

By 5 minutes, someone has cut off their horns.

By 5 minutes, someone has dismembered them; their front legs, their genitals, their udders.

5 minutes of absolute hell. Even one animal forced to endure this is one too many.

Don't let statistics fool you, nothing humane happens in a slaughterhouse.

The U.K. can produce 19.42 billion litres of oat milk on just 35% of the land currently being used to farm cows. See my thread 🧵
According to Defra, in 2019 the U.K used 182,000ha of land for oats, yielding 6 tonnes of oats per ha
Based on your figures that dairy cows use 925000 ha of land, and assuming, as you did, only 35% of that is croppable, that would allow for 323,750 ha to grow oats on.

For two days someone who has self identified as a “nutritionist” argued with me about this- despite me sending research to show that plant based diets are helpful and can cover all our needs, from pregnancy to athletes. I can not believe how lacking in knowledge people are.
The position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is that:

“protein from a variety of plant foods eaten during the course of a day supplies enough of all essential amino acids when caloric requirements are met.”
We point out that protein-rich foods, such as traditional legumes, nuts & seeds, are sufficient to achieve full protein adequacy in adults consuming vegetarian/vegan diets, while the question of any amino acid deficiency has been substantially overstated. mdpi.com/2072-6643/11/1…
