*SOUL AND CELL AND THE DEVOLUTIONAL MODEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS: THE RECONCILIATION OF PRENATAL-PERINATAL AND TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY*

Prenatal spirituality and the devolutional model of consciousness compelled by it envision a revolution in child development, parenting, mental health, and spirituality. Falls from Grace presents such a radical theory of consciousness, evolution, stages of life, purpose of life, human nature, and the human species.

Reporting on the latest understandings from consciousness research and experiential explorations into the human mind, it discloses awareness extending into womb and cellular states — sperm, egg, zygote, and blastocyst, for example — and even before conception. It is a comprehensive understanding, which basically turns everything we think is true on its head. Still, in doing so, it reveals previously unacknowledged positive and joyful possibilities of our human potential and indicates exactly where we need to apply our efforts to realize them ... to transform ourselves and the societies and world we live in.

While Falls from Grace is a radical view, it is in line with mystical beliefs, Platonic thought, and even much of primitive or primal-like views of the world and Nature.

In three other works of mine — Planetmates, The Great Reveal 2014); *Primal Renaissance* (1993); and the forthcoming, *Prodigal Human* — I delineate what I believe are some of the factors in creating the present state of consciousness as described as being the endpoint of the process of devolution in the last chapter. I trace it back millions of years to bipedal locomotion, an increasing skull size, greater pain in childbirth, increased psychological repression, changes in pelvic size in the female, the forces of natural selection on the length of gestation, comparative prematurity of human newborns, secondary altriciality, increased pain in infancy and birth for humans, increased repression, increased neocortical capacities, the beginnings of culture, and increased skull size again. I also trace this current patriarchal pathology back thousands of years to the “agrarian revolution” and the rejection of the hunter-gatherer lifestyle.

This part answers the questions, who to be? And, what is the real self? It deals with our stage of adulthood & goes back to that of toddlerhood.

In this Book Two of The Path of Ecstasy Series, I continue the exploration of the screens of distortion across human perception begun in Book One, *The Secret Life of Stones: Matter, Divinity, & the Path of Ecstasy*. This time I focus on the ways the crucial events & experiences of our lives create our beliefs in life.

*Dance of the Seven Veils I* is all about

- pulling back the Veil of anthropocentrism & species-superiority, which is Veil One;

- removing our enslavement to the hidden agendas of societies & especially its elites which get construed as rites of passage & initiation into adulthood for young girls & boys & which thus corrupt their personalities along lines not their own, which is Veil Two;

- and unraveling the layers of parental abuse, misdirection, control & direction, for their ends, not our own, which get impressed upon us in infancy, toddlerhood, & childhood, & which coalesce as the primal scene, which is Veil Three. This event, the primal scene, is the culmination of all the abusive misdirection in which we finally concede to the reality that each & every one of us is not going to be loved unless we be something other than what we are, what we were meant to be, & what we were destined to be—which is our real self.

All these, regardless their experiential qualities are Veils. They are films across our comprehension because they are imprints about what Reality is that arises of our unique human experience—either individually or collectively. Thus, being a consequence of early, quite variable, quite unique (in comparison to other species) events, they cannot truly be considered accurate about what exists outside the parameters they most definitely inscribe. They comprise hard & fast *prejudices* about, is True & Real.

In doing the revelation in this book, layer by layer, Veil by Veil, I continue bringing greater, truer perceptions into view of everything beyond. I show in particular how our ideas about who to be & what to be, as rooted in culture & mythology; what to do, as rooted in early childhood experience; what to believe, as linked to religion, God, spirituality, mythology, good & evil, & much else, are rooted in the patterns of experiences we universally experience over the course of our lives, leading up to adulthood.

Further, I show how peeling back the layers of that onion is ever more liberating, at every step. & where it ultimately leads...what is ultimately true...what is the center of the onion? Well, the image that emerges is your original face. & your original face is all these things—Divine, true, realer than real, more positive & loving than you ever thought you could be, & more wonderful & exciting than you can imagine. In the same vein as William Blake, I am saying, when the Veils across perception are pulled to the side, everything appears as it is...infinite.

*The Slaying of the Feminine*

*The Repression of Self and Feeling*

The point is there is a repression of self and feeling built into the foundations of patriarchy. This suppression of feeling is the equivalent of the killing of the biological, the Nature, inside of humans ... symbolized by Abraham killing a ram; and in other cultures, an animal of some sort.

Since women are associated with Nature, this brings about the suppression, even murder, of women throughout history. It is most definitely related to the rampant misogyny, witch-burnings, women-hating, and domestic violence we have seen in patriarchal cultures: For the message is the same, kill the body, kill the feelings, murder the “feminine” within oneself, slay one’s weakness, one’s softness ... and inevitably despise, hate, ... even murder and rape the symbols of such feelings outside — women.

*The Murder of Nature*

And all that is allowed in service to this higher good of transcendence, of being above the body and Nature…. Regardless the end result of that war on, repression of, and despising of Nature is currently leading to the *end* of all such bodies today — apocalypse ... the end of all human bodies, humanicide.

We see this attitude blatantly in reactionary types in these times. With all the machismo they can muster, such conservatives boast, in the face of Earth apocalypse, “Hey, we’ll beat it till the wheels fall off!” Thinking this way, they, like Donald Trump, will deem it a good idea to outlaw the ideas and science of climate change and to put at the head of the department to protect the environment, the EPA, someone who does not believe there is an environmental problem and wants to squeeze of the Earth’s resources all that can be of riches, as long as we are able.

Similarly, their counterparts on the lower level — their masculinizing, macho, and sycophantic underlings — defy our problems buying gas-guzzling Humvees and ridiculing environmentalists as “tree-huggers.” The worst of them, Tea-Baggers and such, have been known to go around driving semis with exhausts made to be super polluting as their way of giving a middle finger salute to our bleeding heart, liberal ... “feminine” ... efforts to save ecosystems and lives. Including theirs, don’t you know.

*The Murder of Everything*

So the murder of Self, of body, of individuality — acted out in patriarchal cultures since the dawn of civilization and with roots in primitive psychological urges to better oneself, not upon one’s own efforts, but upon the suffering of others — has led to the imminent murder of *everything*. This is perhaps the part of this male dynamic, manifesting most prominently in patriarchies, that is most relevant to our environmental collapse. For apocalypse is rooted in the male, in a patriarchy, being forced to be insensitive, coerced into repressing the feelings of his body, taught to be unemotional, stoic, and cold; along with the outward destructions that emanate from this ... the murder (“sacrifice”) of animals, women, their children, and ultimately the world of Nature, which is the world of life outside the patriarchy and its “secrets.”

Yet it does not have to be that way. Pulling back the Veil of cultural identity manifesting as patriarchal obeisance we find the resources to live and love, as well as to know. With that in mind, we continue. Turning from the patriarchal mode of domination and ignorance, the question arises as to what mode to apply to life instead. How to live, what to do with one’s life, who to be, along with the kind of knowledge one needs to make the most out of one’s life and to fulfill oneself — these are what we look at next.

There is a secret life in the Universe. The physical world is an illusion arising from our human perception, and the fundamental reality is consciousness; it is experiential. This is the conclusion of quantum physics and our latest consciousness research. There is a secret life of stones.

Knowing this changes everything. It is the tipping point revealing a new world—one in which you are immersed, like a fish in water, in aliveness, consciousness, experiential units…and all of it friendly, compassionate, reaching out to you and helping you…even in spite of you.

This book presents a logical philosophical journey that wanders and explores the terrain leading up to and supporting such overstandings. Then, it hovers above those astonishing revelations and glories in the implications of them for understanding our Reality, our non-separation from each other, our Identity as Self and Divinity, and for guidance for our lives.

In so doing, we peer through a portal wherein we are again one with the Universe. We find ourselves on the edge of a coming together as grand as that which we experienced at conception. We receive the gift of a heritage we long ago and mistakenly repudiated—a worldview in which we are seen as belonging, at home, and once again noble within the world we inhabit.

The Universe is at base Consciousness, Absolute Subjectivity, Experience, or mind-stuff. This is the finding of quantum physics and Consciousness research. Does that not imply that matter and stones are, somehow, aspects of that Consciousness, mind-stuff, Experience? This book explains how that is so and reveals the profound implications that has for us and how we live our lives. In so doing, it gives us back a heritage we long ago and mistakenly repudiated — a worldview in which we are seen as belonging, at home, and once again noble within the world we inhabit.

Using rediscovered psychotechnologies, people are able to identify with and experience the consciousnesses not only of other planetmates — that is, other species on Earth — but also are able to merge with and experience the consciousness of higher orders of beings: the Earth, individual planets, the galaxy, individual collections of people — such as the women of all time; and even collectives of supranormal beings and realities — archetypal consciousness and its reality. It is possible to experience consciousness of supposedly inanimate, non-living forms and even identify with consciousnesses on the atomic and subatomic levels.

So trees bloom for the joy of it. Bees delight in their tasks. The ocean is deep, wise, and comforting. And the Universe is pervaded by love, which we erroneously label gravity. This is what we know because we are part of Reality, part of Nature, part of Divinity and not superior to it as the dominant religions presume…. Or fallen from it like we are some kind of alien fruit that was somehow projected out of a tree, a Nature, that we have no part of, as scientists assume.

*Life in the Infinite … The Nature of the Afterlife*

Reality is ultimately *no-thing*. So the No-Form State, the after-death state or the afterlife is basically no-thing. That is to say, outside of this life, outside of this space and time, Reality is *thingless*. You might see how that follows from this idea that “things” (matter) are merely Experience (consciousness) that are not recognized as such and therefore are projected, while here in Form. So in a state where that is not done … nothing denied, nothing projected, matter not created … how can there be “things”? Well, there can’t. Outside of this Game, Reality is matter-less, thingless, for all is in awareness, potentially. There is nothing intentionally blocked from awareness or inaccessible (which creates “things”)

The conclusion, then, is that Reality is no-thing, not nothing. That makes a big difference. For being no-thing and not being nothing hardly makes it boring, nothing, worthless. It simply makes it that it can be anything, and variable, and changeable in accordance with what one wishes to experience. It is only “nothing” if we have the assumption — and we do, by the way, and that is another problem — that this reality is the only one possible, so anything else must be “nothing” … and if existing, certainly not *real*, meaning not consequential, insignificant.

Outside of our lives in Form, also, time does not exist … *in common*. It does not exist *as an absolute*. That does not mean there are not experiences to be had which unfold time-like. It is just that *that* time is not one in common … in common with other beings.

These are the mistakes we make in thinking about life after death. These mistakes have us thinking life after death is pretty unappealing. And we dread death like we are going to go into an unconsciousness, like a coma. We say “rest in peace” as if someone is going into a deep sleep. Or we think it amounts to going into a pitch black non-existence.

These ideas could not be further from the truth. In fact, No-Form Reality is exciting, wonderful, fascinating. Imagine having meta-human abilities to go back to any time, to any place — including other planets, galaxies, and other dimensions — and to interact with anyone at any time to do virtually anything. No appointment needed. No mapquest required for directions.

I know, I know. You’re thinking, what about taking pictures and doing status updates? And how would you be able to tell everyone? Okay, it has that one … that *one* … drawback. But for all I know, there is something else — something like that or overshadowing it — which is far more engaging and interesting! I can hardly lol at the moment, with my tongue so deeply in cheek.

Seriously, though, imagine your reality as being able to choose any experiences and events to have, like as if you had access to infinite virtual reality games and could choose any one of them.

The reason we think this must not be true is because we have been brainwashed by religions, which at base are tools of very human societal elites. Tools whose intent is to make us behave and keep us in line, for purposes of social order. Social order which is desired, ultimately, because it protects their status, their holdings, their investment, their wealth. We have been taught to fear death … hell, and all that … so as to make us to apply ourselves more diligently to their ends while in human form. We have been told death is about judgment, about punishment, about paying a price for the bad things one has done in life. All of this regardless those same religions claim God is *good* — the *goodest* actually. So the inconsistency between a wonderful God and a horrible afterlife could not be more of a mind-fuck.

However, why do you think we have this idea of heaven, too? Where does that come from?

Well, an afterlife of heaven is much closer to the truth, in my opinion. I believe the afterlife is, actually, far more wonderful than even heaven is imagined to be. This is a big part of the *something wonderful* that is going to happen that the planetmates predicted in 2014, as I see it (see *Planetmates: The Great Reveal*, 2014b).1Their last message to us, in the last paragraph of the book, reads, “As in your Jacob’s vision, there is no separation any longer ‘between heaven and Earth’; there is a going to and fro between humans and all the angels in Nature and the Divine, which you have so long excluded. Know that this experience of inter-being consciousness, this Unity, is the most exquisite experience and is unimaginable; you might liken it to Love expanded infinitely. Yes, that particular plot is available to you. And if you, as a species, take up your role in it, life on this planet will go on. This Earth will continue in alliance between all planetmates … and something wonderful is going to happen.…”

So, this vision of an afterlife I am presenting here is consistent with the *coming together of heaven and earth* they describe — in “their” words, “there is no separation any longer ‘between heaven and earth.’” Actually, it would be just *one* of the “something wonderfuls.” As the paragraph points to much more beyond even this, particularly in how it would manifest on Earth, in this Form reality, in *this* space and time, as well as what it has to do with a continuation of life on Earth congruent with an “inter-being consciousness” that brings humans and planetmates together again, brings humans and Nature together again. Indeed, that last part of the prophecy is being manifest in this work, which stresses the consciousness of everything, including humans and planetmates, and puts them on an equal footing once again.

The “something wonderful” is brought forth again … this time in much more detail … in my book, *Funny God: The Tao of Funny God and the Mind’s True Liberation* (2015). And while the planetmates imply more, even, than is revealed there, still, in that work, *Funny God*, you can see a great elaboration of “something wonderful” and a “coming together of heaven and earth.” And it is made absolutely clear how it has to do with this new vision of an afterlife, as well.

By the way, *Funny God* points out not only that there is a coming together of heaven and earth happening now and gives evidence for it. One of them is the increasing incidence of Near-Death-Experiences (NDEs) brought about by incredible medical advances which are able to bring folks back from death. But it points out that NDEs, along with evidence from entheogens and psychotechnologies like Stanislav Grof’s *holotropic breathwork* and a few other developments — increasing visitations and communications with the “dead,” for example — reveal the after-death state to be much like I am describing it: More heaven-like. Hardly nothingness. And characterized by incredible abilities to experience wonderful, fascinating realities. See *The Afterlife of Billy Fingers*, by Annie Kagan (2013), for a sample of what I mean by that.

In any case, with all these possibilities in the No-Form State, do you see why No-Forms (dead people) rarely check in with us here? They could be experiencing anything, anywhere, anytime, with anyone, in any life. What are the chances that here is where they would decide to be, to experience and interact with us?

Not only is time and space not existing *as an absolute* or a *shared* reality, in the No-Form State, which means space and time can exist as individually chosen and temporary ones instead, but one’s identity is arbitrary and flexible. Be a planet, be a mountain, be the evolution of the Universe, be God, be you in one of your past or future lives.... And anything else you can imagine.

I mean, why do you think they call it “the infinite,” “the singularity”? They don’t call it the *subfinite*, do they? It is *everything*, not *nothing*.

*The Bottom Line*

One way of looking at all this, then, as it relates to the nature of the physical universe, is that we, as Divinity, and having “agreed” on the parameters of our game of life and the physical components and timeline we will collectively create in which to play that game — that is, the universe of space and time — have also agreed to “place” these messages within physical reality, in our “remembered” or aware state, to guide us when we are in our “forgetting” or diminished state.

Better yet, that these elements of actual, not reflected or projected Reality, which are kept out of consciousness for the purpose of the Game, cannot help but make their way into the game play, this time as an Other or an unconscious reality, and one that is projected out and reflective of what one is not noticing inside. This would be similar to playing a board game, yet being aware of the events going on in the room one is in, the temperature of the air around one, and the sounds of the bird chirping outside of the window of that room, for example.

Another way of keeping in mind the view I am presenting is that, as I repeatedly say, matter is the indirect perception of Mind. So it is like the “map” of mind. Better said, it is the Mind itself, in reflected view. Matter is the map of God.

So by observing physical reality we can see what corresponds or correlates with it in the realm of Mind. That is the bottom line.

Okay, in the next chapter, let us kind of do that. Let us see what the process is like of looking into reality and seeing what it really *is*, in the realm of Mind. I have been doing that in the previous chapters. But let us see how another author — a brilliant philosopher and novelist — has done that exact same thing.

ANGELS IN NATURE BRINGING "TOUGH LOVE" AND A MESSAGE OF HOPE

This is The Great Reveal — arranged by the Planetmates for the benefit of humans on the eve of the biggest challenge ever to face humans or even the planet at any time of its existence. Planetmates are the beings with whom we share this planet, our fellow Earth Citizens.

This revelation comes in the form of prasads, a Sanskrit term, meaning a blessing from a divine being.

The Planetmates explain who they are, who we are, what we think of ourselves … and why it is wrong, has always been wrong … and why it is now of dire importance for us to remember again the truth of us.

On the eve of our imminent environmental implosion — with half of their species slated for extinction within mere decades, along with untold numbers of our own lives — they take us beyond our previous ideas about Nature, existence, humanity, soul, Divinity or God, goodness, love, happiness, and life. They bring astounding revelations on work, play, family, children, consciousness; and they correct our thinking on them in glorious ways. Altogether, they show something much more wondrous, yet more in keeping with what our sciences have come to know to be true.

The Planetmates explain why we could never know or even imagine who we are and how we have always been “wrong-getted” in our thinking of our relation to Nature and Existence itself. It has to do with a uniquely human characteristic we developed, which turned truth on its head. However, through a fortuitous coming together of scientific and cultural understandings — available in history at only this time — we are told that our true Nature and relation to It All can be revealed with a possibility of it being understood. This is lucky and synchronistic, for these new understandings in our sciences and social sciences have become a necessity for our continued survival on this planet. Your tendency to come down with disease and illness was added to the burden you already carried because of your state of ongoing unhappiness carried over from your unnatural beginnings. Thus, you not only created new diseases — by which you would perhaps unconsciously seek to bring to an end your denied state of unmitigated suffering — these diseases were added to your constant uncomfortable, miserable state, poisoned with your early birth and deprivational trauma, as it was. Essentially, then, in acting out your fears in a mania of attempting to control everything around you, you created lives of fundamental suffering. Your attempt to better your fates beyond what had been set for you by Divine Providence — which at one time had you living ebullient lives within the flows of a divinely-ordained Nature — was beginning to have disastrous results in terms of your overall well-being beyond your mere physical survival.

All these things combined, you presented yourselves a sorry figure on Nature’s stage. For these so called “improvements” to your physical circumstances came at great cost. You were able to greatly expand your numbers, but your flourishing was like that of a cancer upon the Earth, for it did not bring with it increased vitality. You grew, yes, but you did not thrive. All your increases of population numbers were paid for with a diminished and watered-down existence for those brought into this world.

For your lives were drudgery and work. By the sweat of your brow, you now would sustain your meager physical existence. This was in contrast to your lives in Nature, and ours, wherein our lives spent in sustaining ourselves is part of our play in Nature. We have no distinction of work and play, as you do. For most of your existence, you saw every day as adventure and fun, as well. But you descended from those lives of Pleasure into an ongoing working nightmare.

All in all, in seeking to avoid death at any and all costs to present happiness, you created lives which it was clear indicated that you actually wished for death ... that you were seeking it out. You not only killed each other, you not only killed us, it was supremely evident that you wanted to die. So you extended your lives in all these unnatural ways, at the expense of actually wanting to live that existence.

So it is that you introduced tragedy to Nature. To us, you were the suffering planetmate. We watched as you elevated Nature’s game of life and death on high to where your numbers would increase wildly and uncontrollably, then be beaten back in mass outbreaks of disease, wars, or natural calamities — which your ever more concentrated population centers made far more severe than for us or would have been for you previously. You were the planetmate to introduce mass dying, and killing, to Earthly existence.

We saw you huddling together like frightened children in your homes and villages, bowing down to the products of your hands, and cowering before Nature and its ways. Your fear had you invent phantom helpers — gods, deities — that were equal, in stature, to your pain. Obviously they had their roots in your deprivational trauma; they were a manifestation of a denial of the way events had actually occurred to you in infancy, for they held out the promise that such satisfaction would someday come. But they revealed their true origins through the fact that they were often cruel and contrary in their beneficence, just as your caregivers had been experienced as being. Thus your images of God are deformed; true and real Beneficence is filtered through your fear and early pain.

You are unlike us, for we experience a perfect nurturing in our beginnings, under Divine orchestration of biological events, creating a perfect trust in Reality as benevolent, perfect, and generous. Whereas you experience a variable quality of nurturing in your early infancies — always less than perfect and sometimes harsh and cruel — which creates for you a sense of mistrust toward existence and its designs. This inner turmoil resulted — throughout your post-agrarian history — in your projecting that upon the screen of heaven and Nature as ambivalent gods, insensitive and wrathful deities, and perverse and contrary Nature. And the measure of your submission to these forces was equal to the measure of your suffering and pain. Feeling beaten down by the forces outside yourselves, from birth, had you begging, pitifully, from such forces throughout your lives. You sacrificed your nobility of soul upon the altars of unappreciative and vain, capricious and punishing gods.

We saw your suffering and pitied you. This was in spite of the cruelty that you perpetrated increasingly upon both the Flora and Fauna Empires of Consciousness — your fellow planetmates. Indeed, rather than anger, your planetmates felt more feelings of pity and compassion toward your species than any other feeling.

Your unhappy lots were of your own choosing, it is true; but we understood your crazed brains could not discern easily the way we could. Indeed, though you acted for all the world as if you were in control and dominant, you appeared to us to be enslaved to drives and passions. Again taking your shortcomings and spinning them as accomplishments, you awarded yourself, out of all Nature, with “free will,” though you were about as free as addicts are in choosing their fix. You lost the sense of having the potential for unlimited variety of experiences of life, as presented through the exigencies of the Divine, which actually gives us the sense of being free. We saw you as sick or emotionally-intellectually deficient, so we did not judge or condemn your actions.

In fact, in our compassion, many sought increased spiritual redemption through devoting their lives to aiding you, at least in the relief of your suffering; even though at the cost of many a planetmate’s life. Their desire was to alleviate your suffering and even to comfort you. Forgoing exuberant lives of Bliss and Pleasure in Nature, they joined you in your darkened existences. They submitted to your wiles and cruelties. They carried you, pulled your plows and vehicles, were companions to and helped to raise your children. They presented examples to you of nobility and service to others, which you had totally forgotten.

So some planetmates chose lives as species where they would be close to and able to help you — “pets” you would call them or “domesticated animals.” And this was done solely out of pure, simple compassion for the unfortunate lots you had created for yourselves.

We were the actual angels in Nature you sought in the heavens. You imagined the actual ideal satisfaction of your needs — their completion, the way they should have been satisfied — and symbolized that as the existence of angels and allies in the skies, descending to Earth for you. You never noticed that your actual angels were directly before you, in Nature. Though you had waged continuous war on us, we reacted in accordance with the Divine benevolence we knew existed for us. We were your unheralded angels in Nature. We came to you at the cost of our lives and sought to assist and comfort you.

And to that, right now, we are adding that we are seeking to remind you and guide you as well. We would be your psychotherapists, as it were, dispensing the brutal truth and tough love you need right now in order to live. For your addiction can go on no longer.

Eden stormed: Beginning approximately 25,000 years ago, the rich began calling the tune. This prasad lays out the beginnings of oppression and greed, which have taken on a heady importance most recently as a small cadre of the very, very rich are engaged in consolidating the entire wealth of the world under their orchestrations.

It is nothing less than astonishing to see the outlines of current events in the patterns of social and economic interaction that began in prehistory, after the adoption of farming and the end of the nomadic lifestyle. The roots of what we see in the daily newspapers, in political developments in the capitals of nations, in mass movements and demonstrations of people on the streets of the major cities of the world, and in the financial reports on television extend deep into our history of the long long ago when sedentary ways led to the ability to gather and accumulate more, since owning more did not require carrying more.

Storage of owned things created more greed — “unplanetmate-like greed” — along with an “unplanetmate-like” desire for more control, extending now beyond the planetmates of Nature to even those of our own species. Big Accumulators had more “say” and sway over Small Accumulators; and they were able to control the actions of Small Accumulators by using their excess accumulation to gift or reward those whose actions fit with their ends.

So, accumulating things led to controlling others. With the beginnings of the concept of possession — of little importance prior to sedentary lifeways — Eden became owned, but more: With the focus on individual ownership, we began ourselves being enslaved by what we possessed.

What does one do in a postmodern, complex, multicultural world in which the options are so numerous and enticing as to paralyze one’s actions? How does one live a good life, a fulfilling life? What actions, commitments, careers, causes, service are most likely to return happiness?

These are questions we all need to address in our youth, yet throughout our lives as well. They come out again specifically during mid-life, and particularly in the mid-life crisis.

One can have access to the entire Universe; but while in Form, one not just *should* but has actually come here to do some aspect or part of that, only. One has one’s dharma, one’s duty arisen out of who one is, and not anyone else’s. This is called one’s *atmadharma*.

It is good, in fact imperative, to open oneself to all kinds of potentials. But if one does not express it, does not bring it out, positively, creatively — and in a fulfilling and socially satisfying way… like a tree does in taking the nutrients it pulls out of the soil to manifest in leaves and blossoms and limbs — one is like a drowned plant, underwater in a swamp ... unfulfilled, depressed, unhappy.

At best, one is in an oar-less rowboat, directionless and drifting, in the middle of an infinite sea.

This peek into immersion in the Cosmic Soup is instructive. It says something about the spiritual process, the primal process, and the Identity processes of life … especially in the places where they all overlap.

Patterns of Positive Growth

The point I am making is that what we see overall is the same pattern — as in the hero’s cycle or the heroine’s journey, the Eleusinian Mystery or a vision quest — of a descent into darkness, where suffering occurs, and through which one is transformed. In the case of the girl, the voreki, in this rite of passage we can assume this transformation. For, how would one not be changed by three days in a box with harrowing things going on? It would have to be like one’s being thrust up against all one’s fears and insecurities. Which is interwoven with copious doses of the comforting things of the world, as provided by her attendees, her community members, who are singing and playing supportive music outside her chamber.

One cannot help but see this as the ideal pattern of all positive growth, in fact: One does this in psychotherapy where clients confront their inner demons accompanied by the soothing and encouraging presence of the facilitator. It also is what ideally should happen at birth, where neonates suffer so much to be born and then again postnatally. Yet if newborns are aided and comforted by the helping presence, embrace, soothing words, and nursing of the mother, and other attendees, it can be quite the positive experience.

In the case of the initiand, then, surely the girl comes out more mature, wiser, and probably blessed. Very likely she also receives knowledge from all that, perhaps new knowledge of a sort to bring back to her community that benefits it. For this is what happens in the vision quests of adolescent boys of some Native American cultures, which have a strikingly similar structure and sequence of experiences. Suffering precedes and brings forth not only wisdom, ideally, and access to the supernatural; it also creates openings to unexpected knowledge ... those gifts of “inestimable value.”

Solar-Bad, Lunar-Good

In all these things, notice that such beneficial and transformative processes — rites of passage, shamanic experiences, hero’s and heroine’s journeys, psychospiritual experiences in experiential therapies, and entheogenic experiences — all contain elements of darkness and light combined. Of lunar and solar one might say.

Notice also how different this is from rites of passage that would have one eliminate the darkness — slay it, so to speak, not look at it, or if so only indirectly — and seek to erect worlds, personalities, and thought processes only of “light.”

Of light, where pain, the darkness, is put “in a box” and “locked down,” never opened, and from which only the nervous energy of which, amorphous and rooted in unconsciousness, is “used as fuel” to “write the story of one’s life.”20 This, regardless how ultimately futile that is ... possibly successful only in a delusional sense. Which delusions — with all their attendant hypocrisy and “obvious” but fake truths — also are instilled. And, much like those winged words and false honors of the patriarchy, are meant to offset all that one loses in the slaying of one’s self (along with the dragon).

Of “light”? Or one might say, to construct perspectives and behaviors that are in keeping with dictates handed down by the powers-that-be and tilted toward winning favor from those above — elites, who might shine their “glorious light” upon one when one is behaving, when one is performing as the childish good little boys and girls of society in the form of conforming underlings, sycophantic adults.

So, solar-bad; lunar-good. Let’s look at more along that line, next.

Going from the age of darkness and fear to the new awareness of pronoia requires faith that one will not be destroyed in the process.

[*Chapter 30 text begins*:] Veritably all Ego psychologists and Jungians, many new-agers and spiritual adepts, and most transpersonalists espouse that one must turn away from actual immersion in the unconscious elements of self as well as of Self in the world. Operating on an assumption that if one does not “look away” one will be “destroyed” or “go mad,” they rely, instead, on the reflective power of “consciousness.”

When we look at what such psychologists and seekers actually do, however, what we see they mean by consciousness — even awareness, which is another hackneyed term explaining everything ... and nothing — amounts merely to intellect and, essentially, Ego. They, being intellectuals — and thus identifying with that particular defense against their primal pain — would, understandably, think it so, would think it necessary, the only way.

Then, they say, the “evil,” the dragon, the Medusa, the obstacles of self, the injustices and cruelties of society, the feminine, feelings, birth, biology, sex, death, and the natural world can be dispatched ... or handled, managed, sublimated, balanced, channeled, worst of all, controlled ... using, like Perseus, the “sword” of analytical power. Meaning they can think it through, their issues, with their accompanying disruptive feelings and emotions.
