1/ One item highlighted in @VitalikButerin's Ethereum roadmap is Distributed Validator.

What is ๐——๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฉ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ป๐—ผ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด๐˜† (#DVT) and could it be the next big narrative for Ethereum after Shapella Upgrade?

2/Since Ethereumโ€™s Merge, we have witnessed the Liquid Staking Derivative protocols like @LidoFinance @Rocket_Pool @fraxfinance flourish.

The rapid expansion of the liquid staking, however, has led to concerns about concentration.
3/ For instance, @LidoFinance and @coinbase collectively control 90% of the $ETH liquid staking market (Lido alone claims 75% of the market). Image
4/ Liquid staking protocols have the power to allocate ETH to validators and manage the staking and withdrawal processes, which could have direct impacts on Ethereum's network security.
5/ The security and stability of a blockchain rely on the number and diversity of validators hosting it.

Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) can thus be seen as a way to scale the consensus layer, enhancing accessibility and fostering greater participation among validators.
6/ The basic idea is that DVT enhances the resiliency of validators by enabling them to run on multiple nodes, thus reducing risk.

DVT allows a cluster of nodes to act collectively as a single validator which lead to a more robust and accessible staking experience
7/ DVT distributes the job of validator using tech including:

1) Distributed key generation,
2) Shamir's secret sharing,
3) Multi-party computation and
4) Byzantine fault-tolerant algorithms

8/ Normally, Ethereum validators use active-passive setups: backup nodes stay offline while the active node is online.

DVT allows for ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ-๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ cluster redundancy, minimizing the risk of penalties due to downtime or double-signing.

9/ So who are the major players in the DVT landscape?

1. @ssv_network

SSV began as a joint research project with the Ethereum Foundation in 2019. On March 30, 2023, SSV Network introduced Jato, the latest iteration of public testnet.
10/

SSV Network also has its live token $SSV with a total supply of 10 million. The primary use cases of $SSV are for payments and governance within the network: Image
11/

2. @ObolNetwork

Obol Network is a multi-operator validator network that aims to decentralize Ethereum staking. Obol is right now in the Bia public testnet phase, followed by the mainnet launch. In terms of progress, Obol is slightly behind SSV. Image
12/

Some other players in the field include @divalabs, @staderlab_ and @parastateio.

Specifically, Diva aims to merge LSD and DVT models to develop a comprehensive solution for liquidity staking and distributed validation. Image
13/ END

So how does DVT fit into the to staking and liquid staking landscape? And could it be the next narrative for Ethereum after The Merge and Shanghai upgrade?

๐Ÿงต1/ happy to share my latest article is published in Stanford Blockchain Review (@StanfordCrypto). the article explores a simple question: how does web3 actually increase output?

tldr: it's about
1) Control
2) Liberation
3) Expansion.

everyone is busy so here's a summary ๐Ÿ‘‡
2/ is crypto building something meaningful, or is it just a high-tech casino?

letโ€™s take a step back. most people think of innovation as disruptive: new tech replacing old systems.

joseph schumpeter called this creative destruction. think cars replacing horses or smartphones replacing basic phones. these changes are dramatic, tangible, and easy to measure.

but not all innovation looks like this.
3/ economist ronald coase took a different approach. he focused on institutions which are the rules of the game in society.

institutions reduce transaction costs (the hidden friction in coordination and trust) and enable economic activity.

what are transaction costs? think of buying a house:

1/ With the recent depeg of @Platypusdefi's $USP and FUD around $BUSD, I dived deep into @y2kfinance, a DeFi protocol on @arbitrum. A thread on the protocol mechanism and the $Y2K token ๐Ÿงต
2/ One of the roles of financial markets is to transfer risk and allocate it efficiently. But there's a gap in the DeFi world when it comes to hedging against stablecoin de-pegging risks.
3/ Y2K Finance is a protocol on #Arbitrum providing avenue for hedging and speculating on pegged asset risks. Users can manage potential deviation of stablecoins, liquid staking derivatives (#LSD), or other wrapped assets from their expected value.

๐Ÿงตโฌ‡๏ธ Crypto loves #trilemmas. I compiled every trilemma I came across related to #blockchain, #web3, and #finance.
Perhaps by addressing the difficult design choices presented in these "tricky triangles", the next killer use case will eventually emerge

Last month there was an interesting DAO proposal on @LidoFinance by @_skozin. The crux of the proposal argues for introducing a Dual Governance scheme, in which $stETH holders will also be granted governing power in addition to $LDO holders.

In my latest blog, I explore how the Dual Governance scheme resembles the structure of a #bicameral legislature (with specific reference to the U.S. Congress) and inherits the spirit of check and balance to address moral hazards.

Many parallels between #dual #governance and #bicameralism can be observed: both seek to mitigate the principal-agent problem through better alignment of interests and both seek to limit the power of the governing body by introducing elements of checks and balances.
