THREAD: 1/8 Lets unpack the Labour health briefing document that was published yesterday ⬇️. #NHS#healthpolicy
2/8 👍There are some promising elements - like an increased focus on staff numbers, a much-needed shift to prevention, and an emphasis on bettering pay and conditions within social care. But….
3/8 ❗️….the briefing reiterates a commitment to private sector delivery, particularly to cut waiting lists. This means further erosion of public provision and privatisation of our healthcare services, and your taxes flowing out of the NHS to boost profits. #NHSPrivatisation
4/8 ❌The document also disappointingly lacks mention of substantial additional funding on the scale that our health services desperately need. Simply put, good intentions won’t cut it without the necessary financial backing.
5/8 🚀 While the document is optimistic about AI, genomics, and other technological advancements, these are tools and not magic solutions.
Labour failed to reference the risk posed by current plans to centralise our health data in the hands of @PalantirTech.
6/8 🤔 It also fully embraces the Tory’s Life Sciences Vision, pushing to align NHS processes to meet the demands of big pharma.
A Labour government should be coming up with a new vision for medical innovation that better serves patients.
7/8 There’s a glaring lack of critical analysis around the issues of high drug prices, privatisation of public research, and the current poor rates of medical innovation. These are vital issues that must be addressed.
8/8 Health is a right, not a privilege. Let’s keep pushing for a system that truly prioritises patient care over profits.
We’re going to fight to make sure whoever forms the next government commits to the policies that the NHS and patients need and deserve.

“The UK’s pandemic response was driven by nationalism.”
The Government failed to ensure vaccines, tests and treatments being developed with £1.5bn in public funding would be shared fairly with other countries worldwide…
By spending this money without putting conditions on what would happen to these products after they were developed, the govt socialised the risk of the investment whilst allowing Big Pharma to then take the reins to set high prices and monopolise these products.
This led to gross inequity.
On 1st of January 2022, of the UK population:
💉90.1% had a first dose of a COVID vaccine
💉💉 82.5% had received 2 doses
💉💉💉 60% had also received a booster.
🌍At the same time just 7.6% of people in low-income nations had received a first dose.
In today’s #AutumnStatement@Jeremy_Hunt & @RishiSunak have unleashed a new wave of austerity on the British people and our public services. They claim to be “putting the #NHS first” with a £3.3bn funding increase. But in reality, this is a real terms cut -here’s why…
THREAD:1/6
The context for this budget is that our health service is already at breaking point. After 12 years of Conservative governments, we’ve got millions on waiting lists, overwhelmed ambulance services, and underpaid and overworked staff leaving in their thousands…

This NHS crisis has been years in the making. A report by the Health Foundation revealed that the UK has spent around 20% less per person on health each year than similar European countries over the past decade. That’s a gap of £40bn.

🚨 Why the government's #NHS funding pledge falls far short of what’s needed 🚨
A thread...👇🏼
After more than a decade of chronic underinvestment, our NHS has been left in a deeply precarious position. It’s good that the government has recognised this, but the proposed funding boost will not be enough to fix the major problems facing our health service.
We need at least an extra £33bn a year to bring the NHS up to the same level of investment seen in France and Germany, in order to match or surpass their numbers of health workers, beds and scanners. The government’s new policy is only offering less than £6bn a year.
Elizabeth has witnessed the difference between the UK and US health systems. She knows the human cost of high prices. Don’t allow the US to sabotage access to meds on the #NHS.
EPIC THREAD!!!...
There has been a lot of debate on the impact of a #tradedeal with #Trump on #NHS medicine prices. Here’s a thread detailing why people are right to be worried… 1/
Firstly, the US has history. #Bigpharma spends more influencing politicians in Washington than any other industry. So the US has repeatedly used #trade agreements to force changes on countries that will boost the industry’s profits. 2/
