1/8 Lets unpack the Labour health briefing document that was published yesterday ⬇️.
#NHS #healthpolicy Image
2/8 👍There are some promising elements - like an increased focus on staff numbers, a much-needed shift to prevention, and an emphasis on bettering pay and conditions within social care. But….
3/8 ❗️….the briefing reiterates a commitment to private sector delivery, particularly to cut waiting lists. This means further erosion of public provision and privatisation of our healthcare services, and your taxes flowing out of the NHS to boost profits. #NHSPrivatisation

Our #NHS is in crisis

Privatisation is partly to blame

Today we join @We_OwnIt ‘s action highlighting the avoidable deaths an @UniofOxford study attributes to the impact of outsourcing.

#NHSprivatisation Kills

@We_OwnIt ‘s action highlights these 557 deaths to draw out a bigger narrative… (here’s #63)

Record level 7 million patients on waiting lists

Doctors and nurses taking industrial action

Excess deaths at their highest levels since 1951

#TooManyDeaths #SOSNHS

The crisis is partly because private involvement has hollowed out the NHS

Outsourcing delivers worse outcomes for more money, costing the NHS

Outsourcing reduces NHS capacity

Plus outsourcing, competition by private companies draws staff away from NHS

The Tories have ruined our NHS. It is now a 2 Tier system those who are well off enough to have private health and have adequate healthcare & those that don’t & can’t get treatment they need.
A colleague of mine told me about his friend who he was going to see after work.
His friend (56) collapsed in the street and ambulance took to A&E the doctors told him@ there was a blockage in his heart but unable to have surgery at the hospital due to availability of surgeons and told to go home and rest not to do anything strenuous stay downstairs not under
Under any circumstance go upstairs or anything that might stress his his heart. His family rung around other hospitals to try and get him surgery, earliest he could get an op was a month. Fearing death he decided to contact Nuffield Health. He has no health insurance they said

I wonder whether any Conservative politicians realise that the period of prosperity we experienced during the 20th century resulted not from exploitation and greed but from a workforce with access to excellent health care, free medicines, free school milk & orange juice for kids
And on free education through to 18 and free university with full maintenance grants to enable every intelligent student to get to the most prestigious institutions and collaboration with other scientists across Europe with generous funding for research
And workers' rights including the five day week that allowed families to enjoy leisure time and spend the fair earnings that gave them freedom and the chance to broaden horizons, instead of working 80 hours just to scrape together the cost of the next meal

This thread explains the assault the UK government is mounting on the NHS: its historical roots, its recent manifestations and the plans for the future.
Most importantly, it explains what we need to do to prevent the assault succeeding.
(2/14)
If it seems hard to believe that any UK government would think healthcare could be shifted from the state to privately owned and run medical facilities, make sure you read the cabinet paper from 1982 cited at the end of this article.

Over the last 12 years, the assault on the NHS has been waged largely by economic means – starving the NHS of funds so that it increasingly struggles to perform.

🚨 Announcement thread 🧵

For the last 18 months we've been building a movement to halt + reverse #NHSPrivatisation.

We've run MP briefings, public webinars, sent 12,000+ letters & ad vans round London, projected onto parliament and built an interactive map.

Now we're...
...excited to launch our next step: a series of in-person events across the UK!

We'll be in Edinburgh, Brighton, Harrogate, Birmingham + Cardiff this autumn and we'd love you to join us: bit.ly/Events-Sign-Up💙

Our online community is incredibly powerful. Now we want to…
...take things to the next level & meet as many of you as we can.

All NHS staff+members of the public are welcome to learn more about our work, share what's happening in your area, and shape the next phase of the campaign.

The NHS is in crisis. To protect it and ensure the...

Why did we build a map of NHS privatisation + outsourcing? 🗺️💙💰

🧵 A thread:

Lots of people are (rightly) worried about #NHSPrivatisation, but they see it as something to avoid or prevent happening in the future.
The truth is - it's already here.

Privatisation has been...
...creeping into the NHS for 30 years.

This transfer of assets into private hands has landed the NHS in major debt, created a postcode lottery for patients & as published in the Lancet; led to an increase in ‘treatable mortality’(preventable deaths)...
thelancet.com/journals/lanpu…
...by introducing a profit motive, priorities are inevitably skewed. The sole focus of healthcare workers should be patient care, not profit margins.

Short term contracts also disrupt long-term caring relationships which are incredibly valuable, esp. for clinically complex...

1/14 I hesitated at voicing my opinion on this rather contentious issue…

But I feel that without individual testimonies, we will fail to understand why some GPs (myself included) feel mainstream primary care is no longer for them.

#GPCrisis
@HelenRSalisbury @MartinRCGP @rcgp
2/ Obvs the relentless vilification from the MSM hasn’t helped, esp the claim by some that the number of ‘part-time’ GPs is the problem.

Those on the inside know that a typical day is 11-12hrs long & a ‘half-day’ is regularly 7-8, but hey, let’s not let facts get in the way.
3/ & I don’t suppose those of us who volunteered to work f2f in acute #COVID services within the community in spring 2020 will forget that our pleas for effective #PPE were repeatedly ignored & dismissed by govt, PHE, NHSE, HSE & senior advisors.

The government's Health & Care Bill will accelerate #NHSPrivatisation. And is it any wonder given the links between private healthcare companies and members of Boris Johnson's team?

We're taking a deep dive into these links today, and next up is Samantha Jones...
An ex-director of new care models at NHS England, Samantha Jones recently stepped up her role in Number 10.

But before that she was the Chief Executive of Operose - the UK subsidiary of the giant US private healthcare corporation Centene. During her time there she oversaw…
...the acquisition of AT Medics.
The merger made Operose (& therefore Centene) the largest private supplier of GP services in the UK; they now have 70 GP practices under their belt.

The Health & Care Bill soon heads to its 3rd reading in the Lords. To turn the tide against...

We're taking a deep dive into the links between some high-profile politicians and private healthcare companies today.

First up: Sajid Javid.

And his links with the California-based company, C3ai which delivers AI software to the health sector...
...our current Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has around £45,000 worth of shares in the company.

He also spent 10-12 days and received £151,835 per annum for "providing advice on the global economy, geo-politics and market opportunities" to them...
...given this, can we really expect our Health Secretary to defend a truly public health service?

2/ Plus, the "Johnson is a corrupt liar" narrative is useful as it plays on the "1 bad apple" trope, as does the idea that "the Johnson Government is uniquely bad" and that once normality is restored our problems will go away... #Number10Party
3/ By contrast the horrific Nationality and Borders Bill and #NHSprivatisation legislation making its way through Parliament, exposes the truth about the less-than benevolent intentions of the British state. The #HealthAndCareBill is built upon years of cross-party legislation...

Whether the motivation is a flawed #DeliberateMassInfection policy to reach “Herd Immunity” or part of a wider plan to crush & crash the #NHS (hastening #NHSPrivatisation ) by letting #COVID “rip” …..it is wholly unacceptable, unethical & immoral to “experiment” on our young.

1/ Morning @JamesMelville 👋….I see you and your #CovidDisinformation pals on @talkRADIO are still at it.

Could I suggest that you speak to someone who actually knows what’s going on in the #NHS before debating a really important topic live on the radio?

2/ If you don’t know/understand all the issues at play in our perfect storm of #COVID19UK, #GPCrisis & #NHSCrisis then as journalists, your duty is to find out rather than whip up more anti #NHS sentiment.

We’ve got more than enough of that to deal w/ already, I can assure you👇🏼

X had a through examination, a detailed explanation, reassurance & good safety-netting, all documented.

Thank you Dan, once again you’ve explained with absolute clarity one of the most significant failings of @10DowningStreet ‘s catastrophic #COVID19UK management.
@danielgoyal

1/22 - Sorry🙏🏻💙
I qualified as a GP in 1996, but no longer work in “normal” General Practice & have not done so since Oct 20.

I now spend 90% of my time as a “GP in A+E” & work in our 2 local UTCs.

I’ve also been part of the local #COVID “hot” services - in our #HotSite & doing home visits.
2/
From talking to my GP friends & colleagues, I believe my experience is not at all uncommon & has played a HUGE PART in the current #GPCrisis - both for the health & wellbeing of our patients but also for the recruitment/retainment AND wellbeing of GPs themselves.

….carefully positioning your scapegoats (the EU/drs/nurses/teachers/refugees….

You’d allow #COVIDDisinformation to run riot, including from the @UKHSA (& conveniently replace #PHE), whilst churning out a #COVIDisOver narrative through a compliant media.

Our focus today is PFI - a.k.a Private Finance Initiatives. Today, PFIs drain an average of £2 billion from NHS Trust budgets every year. How exactly? 🤔 Here’s a little history…
Initially launched by the Conservative government in 1992, and expanded enthusiastically by the Labour government in 1997, PFIs were a method of financing public infrastructure projects via private partners. They allowed...
the government to defer public spending (albeit at a much higher cost in the long run given the debt repayments) - in effect creating a mortgage on the public sector. PFIs were used to finance a range of projects including schools & parts of the London Underground, but where…

As #KeepingTheReceipts week 14 draws to a close, the long-term ramifications of Brexit and cuts to public services, including the NHS, continue to be felt across the UK, and MPs and Lords face renewed scrutiny over their financial dealings. THREAD:
1. The week kicked off with former PM David Cameron once again taking centre stage, after it emerged that he pocketed $10m before finance company Greensill’s collapse, with his spokesperson calling his remuneration a “private matter”
2. Hard-right lobby group, the Institute of Economic Affairs, lost a court battle over it being described as such following a conversation between @PeterKGeoghegan and LBC presenter @mrjamesob, focusing on their opaque funding.

As we conclude #KeepingTheReceipts week 10, cronyism once more takes centre stage after days of new revelations uncovering VIP contracts, donors/political allies elevated to key positions and the Tories pushing through plans to accelerate #NHS privatisation.

Let’s dive in:
1. On Monday Sue Gray, a key witness who played a major role in granting Greensill Capital formal access to Whitehall, was blocked from giving evidence to the PACAC by the Cabinet Office and Michael Gove
2. The same day, it emerged that Cameron had taken a salary of more than $1m a year for just 25 days work, more than $40,000 per day

"Did you vote Tory? This is what you've got coming up -

1/12
1) Photo ID to vote in general elections.
But isn't that fair, you say? Well no, it isn't. First voter ID fraud is almost non-existent. Last time there was just ONE conviction and one warning issued for ID fraud.

2/12
So why are the government so keen? Simple, it's a highly effective form of voter suppression. Around a quarter of voters do not have either a passport or driving licence. In trials hundreds of voters have been turned away from polling stations.
