There are over 400 peer-reviewed articles discussing the association between #Lymedisease and neuropsychiatric symptoms (continued in comments). #LymeDiseaseAwarenessMonth #Lyme
1/4 The biggest challenge for people suffering from mood disorders is most mental health practitioners are not trained to look for the underlying cause(s) of the symptoms – including Lyme disease.
2/4 Many people end up on mood-stabilizing medication for years – or a lifetime – without a known cause of their symptoms. In some with Lyme disease, mood symptoms may improve on psychotropic medication, but symptoms often relapse.
3/4 If a mood disorder is caused by Lyme disease or an associated infection, it may present as “atypical.” This is because the symptoms do not have the usual characteristics of the mood disorder while also having additional symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, or headaches.

How do you know if you have #Dysautonomia/#POTS?
1/6 Dysautonomia/POTS is a common concomitant condition in complex #chronicillness. Normally our #autonomicnervoussystem (#ANS) responds to changes in position from lying or sitting to standing.
2/6 Often in chronic illness, the autonomic nervous system does not work properly and a change in position causes the heart rate to increase to compensate for low blood vessel tone (POTS) or the blood pressure decreases upon standing (#orthostatichypotension).
