तस्मान्नार्हा वयं हन्तुं धार्तराष्ट्रान्स्वबान्धवान् ।
स्वजनं हि कथं हत्वा सुखिनः स्याम माधव ।।

tasmAnnArhA vayaM hantuM dhArtarAShTrAnsvabAndhavAn |
svajanaM hi kathaM hatvA sukhinaH syAma mAdhava ||
माधव - Oh mAdhava, तस्मात् - hence, वयं - we vivekAs, स्वबान्धवान् - bandhus, धार्तराष्ट्रान् - kauravas, हन्तुं - to kill, नार्हा - not fit, स्वजनं - bandhus, हत्वा - kill, कथं हि - how, सुखिनः स्याम - gain comforts
(Arjuna continues after elaborating his inability to kill kauravas)

Oh mAdhava, hence we are not fit for killing kauravas & bandhus. How do we gain/beget comforts by killing our own bandhus?

There lived a brahmana by name Devasharma in the south. He lived an ideal life following his household duties (tretagni upasana, bhagavad aradhana, helping atithi etc..). He also performed many yajna-s with utmost shraddha
Even after leading an ideal life, his mind was at great unease. He was very disturbed & wanted a solution to it

He went to a nearby forest where tapasvi-s were meditating. He did all kind of sushrusha (service) to them & finally one managed to tell his problem to one of them
That rishi suggested him to meet a cow-herder by name Mitravan in a place called Punya near Godavari Banks.

Devasharma met him at a grazing land in Punya-nagari. His face was absolutely shining & radiating with great calm.

2/n Do you think that there is no end of Earth? And if you think so then there is no bigger kook than you. Because the end of our atmosphere is considered as end of Earth and beginning of outer space. So definitely there is end of Earth, it is not an infinite space.
3/n Since the Earth’s atmosphere attenuates as the distance from the liquid/solid part of our planet increases and as it has no specific upper bound (beyond convention) this question, at first glance, might see nonsensical.

The commentator on Panini's grammar - the author of Mahabhashya

But was he a single man or many men?
The consensus in academia appears to be that Patanjali the grammarian and commentator on Panini, is an older figure possibly from the centuries prior to the common era, while the author of Yoga Sutras perhaps dates to Gupta times

This is something I read in Edwin Bryant's work
But Indian tradition has long held Patanjali to be a single figure - the man who perfected both Yoga philosophy as well as Grammar.

This is evident from the shloka that features in the great Malwa king Bhoja's commentary on the Yoga Sutras -

2/n Rigved begins with prayers to ‘Agni’, the first attribute of Parmatma. In the first ‘Mandala’ (chapter), the first ‘Sukta’ having nine ‘shlokas’ is devoted to ‘Agni’. Thousands of years ago, our Rishis grasped the significance of ‘Agni’ in creation of the cosmos.
3/n They attained the knowledge that, it is ‘Agni’ that started the process of creation, of coalescing atoms, which appeared from ‘Aakash’. The power of ‘Agni’ formed stellar dust, stars and planets. They realised that the creation is sustained and nurtured by ‘Agni’.

1. One must always remember the particular historical context in which a text is written.++
@CuriousKudi ++2. dvija’ refers to brAhmaNa, kSatriya or vaishya, not just brAhmaNa.
3. The terms, ‘advija’ or ‘shUdra’ don’t refer to a monolithic, hereditary group. The 1st obviously cannot refer to a single group, being a negative term (a-dvija, not-dvija is a ‘negative’ term).++
@CuriousKudi ++4. Even the “positive” term, shUdra did not always refer to the same group in the minds of various authors of texts. It did have different connotations at different points in time. ++

Just discovered that the mantra that usually accompanies Surya Namaskara (the most famous of all Yoga Asanas) is actually from the Isha Upanishad

हिरण्मयॆन पात्रॆन सत्यस्यापिहितं मुखम् ।
तत् त्वं पूषन्नपावृणु सत्यधर्माय दृष्टयॆ ॥ १५ ॥

I have heard this mantra all my life in Yoga classes when Surya Namaskara is performed.
