As an Indigenous person, the City Councillors who supported the final amendment look to me like they are erasing the experiences of Black communities in Vancouver.

Look at the original amendment in the next tweet... The original amendment offered an APOLOGY to Black communities in Vancouver past and present for 100 years of racism that harmed them.

The final amendment is useless by comparison...

I've received some cynical comments about Vancouver City's commitment to contribute money to @WCELaw's class action lawsuit against Big Oil.

Mostly of the "So what? It won't change anything" variety.

Here's why we shouldn't surrender to the cynicism. 🧵

suebigoil.ca Tobacco companies sought creditor protection after the $15 billion judgement in the Quebec class action was upheld on appeal.

Big Tobacco is on the run.

Class actions can have a crushing impact on harmful industries and the corrupt leadership that drives them.

I block people who demand things they have no entitlement to demand.

You don't like it?

Keep making accounts for me to block. I can do this until the end of time. When I worked for the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan, there was this guy who *HATED* Pres. Robert Doucette.

No idea why. Robert would give the jacket off his shoulders to someone in need.

LITERALLY. One of my colleagues saw Robert give his jacket to a homeless man in the rain.

The RCMP cannot be trusted with evidence and witnesses.

These videos illustrate why the RCMP must not "investigate" the #215children findings of the Tk'emlúps te Secwe̓pemc.

The RCMP must not be allowed near ANY site of #Canada's #genocide against Indigenous children.

65 Liberals abstained from a vote to end PUNITIVE litigation against Indigenous survivors of #genocide child abuse in #Canada.

They are privately making excuses when confronted by constituents.

I've exposed one excuse in the below quoted-retweet.

The next is equally false... Patty Hajdu (#ThunderBaySuperiorNorth) @PattyHajdu is spreading lies as well!

She is privately telling her constituents that the cabinet had to abstain because the vote involved litigation presently before the courts.

This is objectively false.

The accountability train is WORKING. These MPs are admitting.

But they remain TOO COWARDLY to admit publicly.

At least one MP is contacting constituents privately to offer excuses.

WE SEE YOU Randeep Sarai (#SurreyCentre) @randeepssarai.

And your excuse is SO ABHORRENT... 🧵 #Canada's government uses "MEAT CHART" litigation ALL THE TIME.

The federal gov't literally treated Indigenous survivors of child sexual assault like meat for sale.

That's your excuse for avoiding the vote to end PUNITIVE litigation against survivors???

RE: Indigenous foster kids force to get IUDs

Beware this colonizer "reasoning". They are trying to deflect responsibility for Canada's crimes back on Indigenous people.

The National Inquiry into #MMIWG Final Report made it clear that #Canada is responsible... #Canada has created generational dysfunction through its Constitutional #apartheid and systems of #genocide and other #CrimesAgainstHumanity.

Canada kidnaps Indigenous kids into foster care and then fails to protect them from sexual assault. IUDs for kids is not a solution...

I was informed today that social workers in BC have forced Indigenous children under the age of 10 to have IUDs inserted by doctors.

Within the last decade. Then they failed to ensure these children have follow up care.

#Canada is committing genocide against Indigenous nations. In what reality does a social worker believe the appropriate response to a nine year old in foster care who is at risk of STATUTORY RAPE is NOT TO PROTECT THEM, but to force that child to be subjected to an IUD insertion?

#Canada. Indigenous children. 21st Century.

HORRIFIC.

Between this tweet and the one above it in that thread, the verdict is:

"It's the voters and policy, not Canada!"

No, it's Canada. The Charter and human rights laws cannot ameliorate tyranny of the majority without some fiction of Canada as a legally responsible person... If we fail to hold #Canada accountable for crimes it commits b/c "voters", then we allow #Canada (or other states) to have supremacy over, or immunity from, the obligations of a legal person.

A mistake b/c then no one is accountable, and tyranny of the majority thrives...

It is abusive to teach children to find "positive experiences" in #apartheid, #genocide, and other #CrimesAgainstHumanity.

Thanks to Lynda @steeletalk for inviting me to share. Thanks also to her listeners.

A few extra thoughts that exceed the limits of a live radio program... Abbotsford School District deserves minor kudos for quickly bringing an investigation.

However, most of us want a plan to prevent this happening again.

I hope @AbbotsfordSD is prepared to rise to the occasion.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of actions they need to take...

Recently @rjjago quoted the Green Party leader in an OpEd:

“The government is prepared to spend far more on pipelines than on climate action. It is as though we really believe in reconciliation for Indigenous people but first we need to build a few more residential schools.”⤵️ ⤴️@ElizabethMay's comment implies a root problem of her party: Indigenous nations are props to the Green Party, to be used when convenient, to the point of making completely disproportionate, unrelated, and clumsy comparisons between genocide & climate crisis.⤵️
