1/ Traumatised little girls are INVISIBLE in the school system, they behave well, their learning& behavioural difficulties are overlooked & undiagnosed. Their abuses are also more likely to be classified as ā€˜unsubstantiatedā€™.
School driven and CPS data sets are extremely 2/ limited.. This is true also of suicidality -which in women are also undiagnosed, they complete suicide less-because they have a sense of responsibility to their children. If women were not the primary carers - we would lose more women. @DV_NSW @custodypeace @Kate_FitzGibbon

šŸš©Sexually abusing children šŸš©

Almost 1 in 10 men admit to doing it.

1 in 6 admit to having thought about it.

1 in 15 would do it, if they could get away with it.

Yet, as a psychiatrist Iā€™ve personally witnessed
1) psychiatrists disbelieving disclosing children

(Cont) 3) Iā€™ve witnessed child protection disbelieve children
4) Iā€™ve witnessed judges & magistrates disbelieve children
5) Iā€™ve witnessed child psychologists disbelieve children
6) Iā€™ve witnessed parents disbelieve children
7) Iā€™ve witnessed lawyers disbelieve their own child clients

A ragey threadšŸ§µ about Tasers

1/ So, Tasers were first introduced in 2002 to REDUCE firearm use.
ā€¦to offer a less deadly alternativeā€¦

To reduce harm, and to save lives. 2/ initially they were used by specialist units, in restricted areas to allow evaluation to take place.

An independent evaluation was doneā€¦ā€¦

Dear @MarkSpeakman

I need to talk to you about the Coercive Control bill you are trying to quickly push through before the election.

First, let me establish that I very much want to see coercive control criminalised.

Howeverā€¦.
@AbigailBoydMLC 2/ this bill is not fit for purpose & hereā€™s why

Your bill says that the survivors must be able to prove that the abuse was carried out with ā€˜an INTENT to control the victimā€™

But, hereā€™s the thingā€¦

šŸ§µ 1/ This week, I have been asked multiple times- why this new Trauma Hospital is for women-only.
I have been accused of discriminating against male victims of trauma.

ā€˜What about men?ā€™ They ask, and I would like to explain why. @PatsKarvelas @EleniPsaltis @kelfuller 2/ I have spent many years working with survivors of trauma, in fact much of my work has been with menā€¦defence personnel, police and other first responders. I continue to treat those men. @kellyanntansley @EleniPsaltis

Murray, have you read the report by the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council revealed 45 per cent of women in the state's psychiatric hospitals have been sexually assaulted in their care?
@PatsKarvelas @EleniPsaltis @davtw2 @angelo_virgona @mbismark The same report showed that 70% of women who end up in psych hospitals have been victims of some form of sexual abuse.

So I stand by my clinical opinion that it is better to keep our female patients both physically & psychologically safe in a single sex environment

1/ My heart is broken. Tonight I found out my friends cancer has returned. Could have caught it earlier, except they cancelled his biopsy, because of COVID. This is what living wt COVID looks like. This is what living in a 1st world country looks like, where govt fails to ensure 2/ adequate vaccine supply, fails to educate its people about the importance of vaccines, a govt that utterly fails at gaining the respect of its people by treating them respectfully & honestly.

As a POC -this is offensive - ā€œalready-empowered white middle class womenā€? Do we really want to rate womenā€™s suffering like this? Abused white women shouldnā€™t be disregarded in this conversation. Empowered is not a word I would use for anyone experiencing FDV or sexual violence Some of my white middle-class employed patients have experienced strangulation, brain-damage, electrocution, rape as infants, tied up for days, whipped, held under water, multiple fractures- amongst many other types of trauma. Itā€™s not OK to disregard this entire population.

TRIGGER.
We need to talk about an American psychiatrist called Richard Gardner

He believed paedophilia was normal.
He believed 90% of women were lying about the abuse they suffered.

He literally ā€˜made-upā€™ a condition ā€œParental Alienation Syndromeā€ wt NO evidence whatsoever 2/ He used his position & influence to deliberately put kids into abusers homes

Even when med reports, police reports, teachers reports corroborated the abuse, Gardners view the mother ā€˜made it upā€™ would override those reports

1/ I am a WOC & I advocate for Coercive control laws. The systemic racial & misogynistic injustices in this system are abhorrent. Current laws have been written by white men, these laws will be different in that they reflect the experiences of women. We need to draw a clear line 2/ between wanting to abolish the entire criminal justice system (abolitionism) & wanting to deny criminalising this one specific behaviour. None of the abolitionists have argued that CC is dangerous. The fight should remain with the oppressive system - not the women that seek to

22 candles, to remember the 22 women lost to gender-based violence this year. Itā€™s too easy to pretend these devastating losses are an inevitability. This is the lie our govt wants us to believe. We can stop these deaths if we 1. Ensue safe houses & enhanced security for women to escape to
2. provide extensive trauma based psychological care for her & the children to enable healing & separation
3. Start believing women when they report abuse
4. Start believing the children who report abuse

Police / lawyers think these things are said in anger or frustration. They tell victims to ā€œblock himā€ or ā€œreport himā€ 2.But victims recognise the PSYCHOPATH they live with. Theyā€™re not wrong. They know him. They wish they were wrong & are forever trying to talk themselves into believing itā€™s their fault. 1. This is completely normal in #trauma!Laying down memory is a complex process & so is ā€œretrievingā€ memories.
Itā€™s unfortunate when memories that come flooding back are so horrific bc it can be like experiencing the event all over again for the second time, but yes (cont) 2. those memories can come flooding back DECADES later.
Whilst devastating, on some level it can make things make so more sense, but also sometimes add to feeling of confusion as to whether event really happened.
