Think Different- in #shipping. A case study rvw 🧵.

We published our first public bullish report on #containership #shipping 2 yrs ago.

Our picks: +386% after 2y, *after* including the big pullback in mid-2022 (1y returns even higher!).

After patiently accumulating #shipping during the 2020 carnage, we shared a conviction sector alert in August 2020 with 5 diversified picks.

This call was *NOT* popular at the time.

+224% in 25 months after after weak trading this summer.

More recently, our exclusive #shipping #research focus shifted to #tankers, where we issued a buy report on 31 January 2022 due to skewed negative sentiment and lopsided risk/reward.

Very few talking tankers back then!

+153% in 8 months.

This is a thread about how anyone can use publicly accessible sequence databases and free software to discover new things about #genomes, #biology, and life on earth.

Genomes are absolutely loaded with complex information, most of which we still don’t understand.

Complete and near complete genome sequences are now available for many organisms.

However, decoding the information in these genomes remains a slow and difficult process. Image
A large proportion of most published genome sequences consist of DNA that is incompletely understood in terms of its evolutionary origins and functional significance. Image

Pre-print alert 🚨 New story from my lab "The cytidine deaminase APOBEC3G drives cancer mutagenesis and clonal evolution in bladder cancer" This is one of the first projects in my lab, so I am thrilled to see it come to fruition 🐁🧪 🔬 #bladdercancer #biology @OncoAlert
We previously showed that bladder cancer is characterized by extensive and early divergent evolution.
We also showed that the APOBEC3-like mutational signatures were enriched in chemotherapy-resistant urothelial cancers… @NatureGenet

I'm going to voice an extremely unpopular opinion.

One that could even get me "cancelled"...

There are quite a few different research firms out there, and we all know the big names.

A thread 🧵
When you peel back the curtain, it's typically not real research that goes into it.

It looks like the following at a high level:
- There's a paper that needs to be written based on demand.
- You pick X amount of vendors to go into the paper.

- You chat with all of them for about an hour. They show you a PowerPoint presentation/sales pitch about the product.
- You take that and write about it.

1.For Managing Content I use: @Pocket – Free add-in to Google Chrome that allows you to save tabs from across the web and then read them in Pocket at a later time. I used this to save articles and content that I want to come back to at a later date.
2.For Project Management I use: @trello - a visual collaboration tool where you can create shared project workspaces. I use this to create collaborative working spaces, manage project timelines, create to do lists, and celebrate achieving project milestones.

In #football #Analytics we often refer to the analysis of attacks as sequence analysis, implying an attack can be modeled as a cascading sequence of events. A thread on why the term “sequence analysis” can be misleading.

#DataScience #Research
Despite the popular analogy (often used to describe strategic moves), #football is actually nothing like a game of chess. In chess, one piece can be moved at a time, after which the opponent reacts. In #football, 22 pieces can be moved simultaneously.
The movements of the 22 pieces are strongly bound together, and #Science has shown that attacking play is not the result of individual, sequential, actions, but rather the product of inter-player & inter-team interaction.
