Hey everyone, I just wanted to post an update because it’s been A LONG TIME! I’m doing so much better these days. Probably ~85-90% back to normal. Working full time, started going back into the office, walking, socialising, back to light exercise and building up weekly etc. 1/n

A photo of me and my daughter in front of a parked fighter jet at an airshow. I’m crouching, smiling and wearing a black jacket and cap. My daughter’s face has been covered to conceal her identity.
An image of my step count chart since August 2023. My steps have increased rapidly from the low 100s in late 2023 to nearly 4,000 per day by July 2024.
A photo of me and my daughter stood at a park together. I’m smiling and wearing a grey woollen jumper. My daughter is wearing a colourful cardigan and has her face concealed.
A photo of me out on an evening walk. It’s sunny and I’m wearing a blue t-shirt, black cap and sunglasses. In the background there is a suburban street with green bushes and a cottage. The sky is blue and there’s a warm golden glow from the sun.
Last Saturday I went to an airshow, was on my feet all day and walked over 15,000 steps with no issues. For anyone who doesn’t know my story, this is after ~2 years of being bedridden/chair bound/housebound with #LongCovid and #POTS. You can find the details in my timeline. 2/n

Black and white photo of me sat in the hospital with electrodes on my chest to monitor my heart. I am wearing a black face mask. This was about 1 year into my hellish journey with Long Covid, in December 2022.
Photo of me sat in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. I am wearing an oxygen mask and you can see a portal behind me. This was about 10 months into Long Covid, in about October 2022.
A photo of my hand showing unusual colouration probably caused by circulation issues from Long Covid.
A photo of me about 11 months into Long Covid in November 2022. I had attempted to make a smoothie but the exertion really f*ed me up and I suffered for several hours afterwards. Ironic really as the smoothie was supposed to be healthy.

What happens inside a long covid clinic?

Close to 100 NHS long covid clinics have sprung up. Erin Dean visits one and meets a multidisciplinary team tailoring support for this wide ranging and poorly understood condition

#LongCovid

bmj.com/content/382/bm… When 60 year old Shelley Curran caught covid-19 in autumn 2020, she waited to feel better. And waited. While her husband, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, recovered well, her symptoms dragged on.

In this video from @SkySports, Oonagh Cousins explains how a return to elite rowing since #LongCovid unfortunately hasn’t worked out

H/t @oonagh_cousins “As the video explains, my return to rowing from long covid sadly hasn't worked out. Having rehabbed for a season (sept 2021 - 2022) my health took a bad turn at the end of last year when I attempted to rejoin the full time GB program.”

“Symptoms of PCNS (post Covid-19 neurological syndrome) mimic some of the symptoms we see after a stroke and younger adults seem to be at particular risk.”

🚨 Today I sent an email to my MP about #LongCovid to help spread awareness for #LongCovidAwarenessDay. I urge everyone else in the UK with Long Covid, and those that know somebody with Long Covid, to do the same. Let’s make some noise! 💥

🧵 1/n Here are some excerpts from mine that can be used/modified by others that don’t have the time and/or energy to write their own in full…

#LongCovid is a mass disabling event happening in real time. Where are all the investigative journalists producing compelling pieces for the screen? 🧵 It’s a story of millions of people losing their once vibrant lives to a vile illness with no effective treatments or cure.

A story intertwined with an older decades long story of post-infection chronic illnesses that have been ignored with millions left abandoned and mistreated.

The cell danger response, healing cycle & chronic disease

An interesting talk by Dr Robert Naviaux. See 🧵 for more

When a poorly run study erroneously concludes that #LongCovid mostly resolves in a year the media jumps on it within hours. Yet when the most comprehensive and accurate review of long covid to date paints a much more sobering picture the media is silent Here is the review that no major global news outlets have picked up on yet:

One year ago today I woke up feeling absolutely dreadful. I’d gone for a 5k run the day before and little did I know that it would precipitate the debilitating #LongCovid that I’ve endured for the last year. I haven’t had ONE good day since then. 1/2 I’ve been either stuck in bed or at home with crushing symptoms. I’ve been diagnosed with #POTS meaning I can barely stand up. 2022 has been an awful year. But the #LongCovid and #MECFS Twitter community has been amazing. We all deserve a better 2023! 2/2

In 2010 I fractured my collarbone badly in a cycling accident. It was broken into 4 pieces after I lost my front wheel to black ice on a ride home from work one late winter’s evening 1/n I waited a week for surgery to put it back together, then a further 6 weeks for it to heal. I still vividly remember the pain of the bone splitting 2/n

HBOT Session #4
24ft (1.75ata) - 60 mins

I had a relatively busy Thursday after Wednesday’s HBOT session. Three short trips out of the house: the first to the supermarket, the second to the drs for a routine blood test and the third to go see my daughter for a couple of hours. This level of activity is huge compared to where I was a couple of months ago… which was largely bed/sofa bound.

This 🧵 will be updated with my #longcovid HBOT data Baseline PM active stand test:

Resting HR: 43
Max HR: 84
Delta: 41

I have #longcovid #POTS. Medication has taken the edge off my HR spikes, but the aftermath of this simple test was pretty gruelling. The AM baseline test will be interesting. ImageImage

Tomorrow I start HBOT in an attempt to get some relief from the debilitating #longcovid symptoms I’ve been experiencing since being infected with #COVID19 in December 2021. This 🧵 will journal my experience 1/n There are no treatments for #longcovid. Let that sink in. A debilitating illness (similar to #MECFS) that can affect anyone after a #COVID19 infection, with no cure. Therefore those of us suffering with it are on our own as we desperately search for ways to get our health back 2/n
