I have created a special news thread on the soft - side and big heart of Peter #Dutton that you can share with relatives who start believing it after being inundated with months of this via #Murdoch press. Let's go! #auspoll #auspol theguardian.com/australia-news…

Did you know the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre has no RAT tests at the moment to keep our staff, volunteers & clients safe because @ScottMorrisonMP Gov took our order? Back on Jan 3 I ordered & paid for tests which were due within 3-5 business days. As of today have NONE.Why? 1/2 Because according to the company I ordered them from the Australian Government came in an appropriated all the stock in those orders. Again Morrison Government has hurt the most vulnerable through his incompetency & we are being punished for being prepared & them not being. Shame

Following up on the last thread here I am going to share @IbrahimiNiamat observations about what a critical understanding of incidents like this war mean for understanding of #Afghanistan history & politics. 1. "In 1893, the Hazara War ended with a total one-sided victory. No significant effort was to heal the deep wounds that were left behind by the Amir. In 1921, Amanullah Khan outlawed slavery but structural and socio-economic power relations that developed in 1893 persisted.

In this thread I will share a few remarks by @IbrahimiNiamat about the war.
For those interested to read more details, please read Mr. Ibrahimi’s book ‘The Hazaras and the Afghan state: Rebellion, Exclusion and Struggle for Recognition’. 1. "Amir Abd Rahaman Khan is often recognised as the founder of modern Afghanistan for his role in imposing a centralised authority over the country’s present territories. He is one of the most contested figures in Afghanistan’s history.

25. "Most #Hazara men were killed during the fight which spanned from 1891 to 1893. Dr Lee says that over 50 percent of the Hazara "male population" died as "a direct or indirect result of the war." This is, in my personal opinion, a very reasonable figure. 26. "Most for the Hazara women and children were taken captive and sold as slaves. Throughout the country, #Hazaras constituted the overwhelming majority of slaves in the bazaars. In fact there were so many that they greatly decreased the prices of slaves.

I am going to share some findings of @NamaKadrie about the history of the Hazaras in this thread. This may help you in understanding the current situation in Afghanistan a bit better. 1. "In analysing the history of #Afghanistan, scholars and historians often assessed the independence and autonomy of a given region based on their ability to resist an imposition of tax. Paying levies was therefore the way power-relations and supremacy was understood.

The Taliban has been presenting their soft image to the world as the Afghanistan issue is hot and the whole world is watching it closely. But this doesn’t mean that the Taliban has changed. I’ll explain in this thread and will show you some evidence as well. The Taliban opened fire and killed at least a dozen of Afghanistan’s Special Forces units on 16 June in the town of Dawlat Abad in Faryab province, close to Afghanistan's border with Turkmenistan.

We want all refugees in onshore detention centres & hotel prisons to know the @ASRC1 are still fighting for your rights. Today we lodged 16 page submission to Senate Committee to try & stop a dangerous new amendment. Here is a thread on why this must be stopped. Please read & RT. What is Dutton trying to do? He is trying to get passed Migration Amendment) Prohibiting Items in Immigration Detention (Facilities) Bill 2020. Here are all the reasons it's dangerous, must be rejected completely and would severely curtail the rights of refugees in detention 2/20

I'm doing an epic thread on the FACTS on the #MedeVacBill to bust all the myths being spread by the #Morrison Government. RT's are so appreciated. Here we go. #auspol #manus #nauru #morrison #dutton MYTH 1: Two doctors will decide if someone is transferred

FACT 1: Actually 11 doctors decide this incl. an Independent Medical Panel that makes final medical recommendation made up of 9 doctors that incl. Surgeon General of Border Force, Home Affairs & C/w Chief Medical Officer

An epic thread. RT’s appreciated 🙏🏼

Debunking all the lies by #Dutton that medical transfer of sick refugees from #Manus and #Nauru to Australia poses a national security risk to Australia. #BackTheBill

I’ll go one by one through all of Dutton’s lies in plain English now: LIE: This would be first time refugees brought from offshore without ASIO clearance to Australia.

FACT: Of the 810 sick refugees already brought to Oz under LNP Gov almost none have had ASIO clearance, most brought here by court orders within a few days and without incident.

So proud of the two incredible women who are seeking asylum who are part of @ASRC1 and @OzRefugeeCounc panel at ALP Conference bravely sharing experience.

A thread of their words today:

“Myself and my children have no work rights, income or Medicare...” “Maybe will be another 2 years before I get my court hearing...they may send me back after 6 years...I spend many years of my life waiting...I have ambitions like any people... I want to live like any family but my family is breaking....I’m not allowed to study but not allowed.”

RT. The legislation @AustralianLabor will introduce regarding kids on #Nauru fails every critical test. The @ASRC1 is actually best placed to explain why as we are one of the organisations doing the work with the kids & families right now. Here's why it fails the kids. A thread. 1. It relies on Minister acting in the best interests of the child by formally making them final decision maker, they already are in reality & just hide behind "bureaucracy", this changes nothing. #Dutton will continue to block without court order, our experience dozens of times.
