On 1/18/24, Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly (@zalaly) wore an N95 mask, said reinfections increase the risk of #LongCOVID, & called for prevention.

On 9/18/25, he didn’t do any of that, & suggested most don’t have to worry about Long COVID.

He contradicted himself & the science. Why? Prof. Akiko Iwasaki (@VirusesImmunity) and Dr. Michael Peluso (@MichaelPelusoMD) were also at the HHS Long COVID Roundtable event on 9/18/25. They didn’t wear masks or talk about prevention. Why? Here’s a Dec 2023 clip of them and Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly explaining why they mask.

Give everyone N95s to deal with poor air quality from wildfires, & reduce Covid infections. Reinstate mask mandates in healthcare settings. Quickly transition away from fossil fuels. Plant lots of trees & hemp. End poverty with a substantial UBI, & provide good healthcare to all. #N95s #wildfire #Covid

N95 masks help protect people from wildfire smoke & poor air quality, as well as Covid & other airborne viruses. N95 masks should be free for everyone, & at the very least, there should be mask mandates in healthcare settings. Are there any politicians who understand this?
