A flag is a very specific symbol. Not merely a logo or a trade mark, a flag is meant to catch the eye, to move in the wind, to be recognized a mile away. A flag is planted to claim ownership, to declare one's intentions, to let a soldier know who to and who not to shoot. A flag declares, "This is mine and I'm willing to die for it." It is curious that Americans have had so many disputes about flags the last four years: The Confederate Flag, The Nazi Flag, The Thin Blue Line Flag.
