Did you know that nature made a thick cushion for pomelos for a reason?

Pomelo is a heavy fruit growing on trees nearly 30ft tall. These fruits sometimes fall to the ground but suffer zero breakage or damage. One of the reasons is their cushion-like skin. The other, more important reason is the distribution of pores through the skin of the pomelo—more compact pores near the flesh and the outer surface, and more spaced-out pores in the middle.

🧵Thread: There's eternal confusion on what oil to use for deep frying and the use cases for cold-pressed and refined oils. The following tweets will give you clarity on this matter. #nutrition 1. Choosing the right oil is crucial for deep frying - smoke point, flavour, and cost are key.

My guest column for @HTBrunch on the true nature of sabudana and the nuance of nutrition which always comes from digging deeper - hindustantimes.com/lifestyle/brun… The complexity and confounding nature of nutrition make it difficult to pinpoint cause and effect, but there is no grey area when it comes to factory-made food products. No good comes from eating these highly processed products.

This ‘celebrity nutritionist’ is known for peddling all kinds of health damaging info, ex: eating every 2 hours (causes hyperinsulinemia, metabolic damage, ripe mangoes for diabetics (causes spike in blood sugar) and now the most ultra processed zero-nutrition food as superfood. What troubles me more is that a reputed publication like @HindustanTimes aiding such quacks in peddling their quackery. So disappointed.

Today is Tulsi vivah, a festival with a very interesting backstory. I wrote about using Tulsi in our everyday cooking in my column in @Mint_Lounge

lifestyle.livemint.com/food/cook/how-… There are a few versions in Hindu mythology of how the tulsi plant came to be. One such version has been narrated in the book The Tale of the Tulsi Plant and other studies by C A Kincaid, published in 1908. This is a tale that is told in the Padmapurana.

🧵We are facing a terrible time with the second wave of Covid with anxiety and helplessness on every front.

There's a lot of misinformation on food/nutrition in the context of Covid.

I've prepared a diet plan to follow if you have Covid or for a proactive healthy diet. 1/14 To make it simple, here are the 3 categories of foods to eat everyday
1. Foods to improve immunity
2. Foods to reduce inflammation
3. Foods for improved mental health (our mental health is crumbling, whether we realise it or not) 2/14

Few days ago, a neighbour shared a pic of kadhai paneer made by her mom in law. Something about that photo screamed delicious. We all hounded her for the recipe. In a couple of days, she sent us a detailed recipe in the WhatsApp group. #lockdown cooking I have been prepping for it this morning. If there’s enough interest, I’ll share the step by step recipe with photos. This promises to be incredibly tasty ❤️

I’m genuinely concerned that a totally frivolous oped like this gets published in the current times when the world is reeling under the effect of a pandemic. 1. Immunity is not quantifiable. It’s not like how can say my hemoglobin level is 12mg/dl. You cannot say “immunity is 98.8 and therefore “toughest”.
