Here's the new For the People Act (Freedom to Vote Act). In one respect, it's better than the earlier versions in that it requires that all voters have the option to mark their ballots by hand (with a pen) AT THE POLLING PLACE. #HandMarkedPaperBallots 1/ klobuchar.senate.gov/public/_cache/…
I and others in the election-security community requested this change. (See example below). 2/
Here's the exact new language in the new bill. Credit to @TheBradBlog who originally spotted the need to make this change several years ago when similar language appeared in the #PAVEAct and #SAFEAct. 3/

If we won’t publicly hand count ballots at precincts then maintaining a transparent chain of custody is crucial. Unfortunately, this is more difficult w/ vote by mail than in person voting. I’m told it can be done. We must make it a priority. Peoples’ lives are being threatened.
The difficulty maintaining a transparent chain of custody does not mean that fraud has occurred. It means you can’t prove that it hasn’t. Which is dangerous under current circumstances especially.

Voters should demand that all polling places give in person voters the option to vote with #HandMarkedPaperBallots (pen and paper), rather than with a touchscreen. Here's why. Part 1 (2 minutes). 1/

If you decide to vote by mail, apply ASAP &, if allowed in ur county (check), return ur ballot in person at a drop box or office, not via the Post Office, which is sufffering delays due to #COVID19 & the GOP effort 2 destroy it. SIGN envelope & follow instructions EXACTLY. TY! 1/
If you vote in person, bring your ID and your completed sample ballot, which will speed up voting no matter what type of in-person voting system you use. 2/
If you vote in person, request to vote with a ball point pen, ie, a #HandMarkedPaperBallot (HMPB) rather than a touchscreen, as most experts agree that HMPBs are more reliable and secure. (Voters w/ disabilities who are unable to hand mark are an exception to this advice.) 3/

This is a good article, but wrongly implies that the most ardent #HandMarkedPaperBallot proponents are also big vote by mail proponents. In reality, many/most HMPB proponents are not big supporters of vote by mail due to chain of custody concerns. 1/ memphisflyer.com/memphis/welcom…
In touchscreen and e-pollbook jurisdictions, however, security has already fallen by the wayside for in person voting. And COVID19 has persuaded many HMPB proponents and others that expanded mail voting is necessary for this election. 2/
In other words, due to health concerns. 3/

This is it, folks. NC IS SET TO CERTIFY BARCODE BALLOTS THIS SUNDAY AT 5pm. WE NEED YOU! Please come and voice your opposition to casting a ballot that a human cannot verify. Demand #HandMarkedPaperBallots
These barcode ballot machines will not work on election day if the power goes out. We will be left with a stack of blank receipts instead of pre-printed ballots that will keep voting going.
These barcode ballot machines are a waste of taxpayer money (cost at least 3x as much as #HandmarkedPaperballots)

This is a major victory bc it means we are successfully exposing the recklessness of rejecting #HandmarkedPaperBallots in favor of machine-marked summary cards from vendors’ insecure “universal use” barcode ballot marking devices & hybrids, which the #SAFEAct would ban. 1/
It also shows that we have successfully exposed as unacceptable ES&S’s installation of wireless modems in election equipment, which it began doing in 2015. This too would be banned under the #SAFEAct. 2/
Yes, I get that McConnell may not bring it to the floor. But we would be negligent to not even try. So we will try & in doing so educate a TON of people—include decision makers at the state and county level—about the election-security best practices embodied in the Act. 3/

Why did this story by ⁦⁦@Elaijuh⁩ focus on what appear to be unfounded concerns that the new system will cause long lines, while ignoring the security concerns w/ the Sequoia AVC Advantage UNAUDITABLE touchscreens that the new system replaced? 1/ philly.com/politics/penns…
This is a story about Montgomery County, PA, where election integrity advocates successfully fought tooth and nail to replace the county’s unauditable touchscreen voting machines with a #HandmarkedPaperBallot system. 2/
Although mismanagement can long lines with any system, touchscreen systems usually cause longer lines than using #HandmarkedPaperBallots & scanners. arxiv.org/pdf/0810.5577.… 3/

I’m thrilled Montgomery, PA switched to #HandmarkedPaperBallots, but the reporting is odd. #HandMarkedPaperBallots shld & usually do cause shorter lines than touchscreens bc touchscreens limit the # of people who can vote at once to the # of touchscreens at the polling place. 1/
So why is the media reporting voters’ concerns that #HandmarkedPaperBallots will cause longer lines?! And why are these voters unaware of the security concerns w/ their old touchscreen system?! 2/
This is what Montgomery County used before: UNAUDITABLE paperless touchscreen voting machines. 3/

🔥 The new #PAVEAct bans dangerous barcode voting systems, "hybrid" ballot marking devices, & touchscreen voting machines. These terms go into effect one year from the date the #PAVEAct is passed, which means that Congress must pass it before November! Start calling! ☎️1/
2/ Here's the text of the #PAVEAct. It expressly requires that jurisdictions give voters the option to mark their ballots by hand. But it does not specify that this option must be provided at the polls (in addition to allowing vote by mail). I wish it did. wyden.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…
3/ Still, for jurisdictions that use precincts or polling centers, that is the more or less the practical effect of the provisions mentioned in post 1 that ban barcode voting systems, "hybrid" voting systems, and touchscreen voting machines.

The inexplicable 127,000 under votes in the Georgia Lt. Governor’s race “seemed to specifically happen in black neighborhoods. Even stranger, the black voters’ absentee mail ballots didn’t reflect the drop-off...” - 2/9/19

If someone can prove that electronic vote tallies have been manipulated (a very difficult task w/ our equipment & system), it will light a fire under the move to secure our elections. Our best chance to get that proof is @CoalitionGoodGv's suit about these 127k missing votes. 2/
As far as I know, there is no one else coming close to doing this for any other race in the country. Pls support this lawsuit, as well as the #HandMarkedPaperBallot suit also filed by @CoalitionGoodGv. Both are described here: coalitionforgoodgovernance.org/current-projec….
