As the #US prepares for @ImranKhanPTI’s maiden visit as #PM, @realDonaldTrump’s nominee for Joint Chief if Staff has stressed maintaining the military relationship with #Pakistan.

General #MarkMilley told the #Senate #ArmedServices committee:
“If confirmed as chairman, my objective will be to preserve the defence relationship between the United States and Pakistan even as we press Pakistan to take action on US requests.”
#Milley also said:
“While we have suspended security assistance and paused major defence dialogues, we need to maintain strong military-to- military ties based on our shared interests.”
General #MarkMilley believes that a premature withdrawal from #Afghanistan would prove a strategic mistake, maybe recalling civil war after the #Soviet defeat in 1989.
Leaving the #Afghans with a solution will be difficult.
Additionally, some of @ashrafghani’s cabinet believe that the negotiations with the #Taliban are useless, because the Taliban can’t negotiate for the #Afghan people.
The same problem faced in past negotiations sponsored by #Pakistan on #US insistence.
The Joint Chief nominee’s vision on #US relations with #Pakistan give a strong backdrop of the potential agenda between @ImranKhanPTI & @realDonaldTrump.
