This is a long read and well worth the time. I had to read it several times to let it all sink in and understand what is happening to democracy and how to fight it. Cannot fight something if we're in the dark. Read and retweet to everyone so we're all on the same page.

I'm going to breakdown this article into bite-sized chunks & post as a thread later on today ... it's a blueprint of how to undermine democracy that is being enacted right now. Unless you are an economist, you'll probably not get to read it because it won't cross your screen.

Here's breakdown of this long and important article:
1/While Americans grapple with 45’s chaotic presidency, we may be missing the key to changes that are taking place far beyond the level of mere politics. Once these changes are locked into place, there may be no going back.

2/James M. Buchanan (1919-2013), southern economist, influential libertarian, intellectual linchpin of a stealth revolution currently in progress within the USA which is helping to take govt down through incremental assaults that the MSM is hardly noticing.

3/Supporters include the billionaire Koch industrialists & many others.
Buchanan’s philosophy/sinister logic is stark, his vision destructive & it’s manifesting right now under our very noses working toward transforming the USA in ways frightening to imagine, much less accept.

4/Many liberals have missed the point of Buchanan’s strategies, like the strong preference for the private sector over the public sector … the goal of these strategies is to radically alter power relations, weakening pro-public forces & enhancing the lobbying power & commitment

5/of the corporations that take over public services and resources, thus advancing the plans to dismantle democracy and make way for a return to oligarchy. The majority will be held captive so that the wealthy can finally be free to do as they please, no matter how destructive.

6/The oligarchs require a government with tremendous new powers so that they can bypass the will of the people. This requires greatly expanding police powers to control the resultant popular anger.

7/Some of Buchanan’s tenets include:
-Liberty for the wealthy minority above all else & enshrine it in the nation’s governing rules. To do so would require altering the Constitution to increase & secure the power of the wealthy in a way that no politician could ever challenge.

8/-Don’t focus on who rules, rather focus on changing the rules themselves which in essence requires a constitutional revolution.
-Change legislative processes so that a normal majority could no longer prevail.

9/-Create a private governing elite of corporate power that’s wholly released from public accountability.
-Democracy constrains property owners who need protection, their rights can only be secured by constitutional limits to prevent the maj of voters from encroaching on them.

10/-Society is a cutthroat realm of makers (entrepreneurs) who are constantly under siege by takers (everybody else).
-Affronts to capitalists include environmentalism, public health and welfare, Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, public education and feminism.

11/-Against channeling of resources to the public who are poor.
-Pro slavery and against de-segregation.
-Pro restricting the latitude of voters and suppressing voting.
