You know what I think is dumbest thing ever? People who tell you you shouldn't compare your salary with your peers and that you should know how much you are worth. I don't know how much I'm worth, most people don't

I never had an programmer friends growing up and my mom makes minimum wage that is about 550€ in Portugal so when I was in an employee I thought I made a shit ton of money because I made almost three time what she did. I didn't fucking know
Later they opened up salaries and I found out I was the team lead of a team where I was the dev who got paid the least. I had to explain npm versions to someone who made more than me and why? Because I was always teached that you shouldnt ask how much people make
Fuck that! Ask people how much they make. Tell people how much you make, don't be ashamed because by not saying you are actually only helping the company
You should know how much to ask, if you are like me and have no fucking clue you need this
I have this thing in where I don't really bargain for salaries, I either say yes or no to what you offer me because going to get a job shouldn't be like a bid so if I don't kno how much people make there or how much I am worth I have no idea what to ask for
Stop making this into a taboo, it helps no one but companies! If someone is joining the company you work for tell them how much you make! If someone is underpaid don't just tell them that, tell them by how much
Share this like we share open source because that is the only way we can make sure no one gets screwed over.

Rant not over, when a friend joined a company I was in I told her how much I made and when she was asked how much she wanted she simply said : I want what Sara makes.
They can't bullshit that and they gave her that, easy

Something I hear a LOT from people who tell me they have cognitive disabilities of some kind is that the thread essay format is so much more accessible for them, and I think there's real power there.
Threads don't necessarily have to be short to be accessible, a lot of mine aren't at all, but the way the information is broken up into these chunks really does make it so much more, I don't know, graspable for some people who might have barriers to traditional essays
I'm usually asking people to read multiple threads to understand what I'm talking about too. Folks are reading, through all of them, like a whole essay's worth of writing. But the format is the key here.

People who give advice like "Women, stop with the 'I made a thing'/'I wrote a thing'"... I definitely get where they're coming from, but I also feel like this is yet another example of a double bind.

Men can be breezy and off-hand about their accomplishments and it's cool.
The fact is on a platform like this is it necessary to both change up your promo so it doesn't become invisible and also make your promo fit into expected formats so it's not invisible.
And "I did a thing [link]" creates a pretty nice visual splash in the middle of people's scrolling timelines.

Luck is in the past.

Luck you could hardly change:

✅ where you were born
✅ your genes
✅ your parents and what they fed you
✅ the school your parents sent you to
✅ whether you had parents at all.

But nothing in front of you now is luck of that kind.

It’s all "luck" you can make for yourself.
If you have to change the entire culture to have the One Life you want – you change the culture.

You don't complain:

– that you were born at the wrong time;

People may tell you that your belief is weak if you keep crying. Your parents may tell you if you prayed more, you wouldn’t be depressed. The imam at the masjid may say if you read Quran more, you’d be a better believer and wouldn’t be sad and have these problems.
But then you do pray, and you’re still unable to stop crying. And then you do read Quran, and your depression is crippling. And you do make dua - sincere, overwhelmingly emotional, present dua - and yet you don’t feel better and you feel like nothing has changed.
And so you yourself wonder: is God angry with me? Is Allah not answering my duas because I am not good enough? Am I going through all of this because Allah is punishing me? What have I done wrong? Why me?
