Alex Azar claims his agency’s care of migrant children is "one of the great acts of American generosity and charity."

His critics say he’s spouting “gibberish.” politico.com/story/2018/07/…
Azar’s also enjoyed the support of Trump all year — some choice quotes below — and is working hard to keep the president’s favor through the migrant crisis. No sign yet of any rupture.
New: Senate Democrats raise questions about whether Azar was truthful in his testimony + say they have no confidence in SCOTT LLOYD to run refugee office.
Also: Republicans joined Democrats today to blast Trump’s handling of migrant crisis, @adamcancryn @AndrewBHanna report.

One proposal would cut $100,000 per day from Alex Azar’s office budget if he doesn’t explain family reunification plan by August.
So @maddow read this story — and she didn’t like it, as she makes very clear.
Wanted to provide some transparency, as the reporter. First, we’ve covered HHS’ failures aggressively and daily.

Second, HHS disputed much of my reporting down to the story’s title — they didn’t want this story, or frankly any story that puts the Azar-Trump relationship at risk.
For all the understandable outrage against HHS, the agency is right that some reports wrongly blame Azar for things out of his control or distorted the facts (like the lost 1,500 children meme).

And Azar has used those erroneous reports to deflect from legitimate criticism.
