well damn, is somebody pleading guilty after all? last i checked this was supposed to be a three day jury trial starting tomorrow.

jacob goodwin was convicted of felony malicious wounding on may 1.
alex ramos was convicted of the same charge, felony malicious wounding, two days later.
tyler borden saw the writing on the wall and pleaded guilty to the same charge, felony malicious wounding, three weeks later on may 21.
if you'll recall, the charlottesville police department had no interest in tyler davis until elmer woodard, defense counsel for jacob goodwin, INSISTED they look into him - an officer testified to this at davis' april hearing
at goodwin's dec 14 preliminary, davis had not yet been positively ID'ed, but elmer was SURE the man he called 'boonie hat' was key to his client's innocence. now both men are headed for long prison sentences. never thought i'd say it, but thanks elmer?
anyway, with this likely guilty plea coming on wednesday, i guess that frees up my morning tomorrow... which is good because i've got 300 pages of city council agenda background to read before tomorrow night.

i should clarify that i don’t know for a fact that this is a change in plea. it’s possible it’s a continuance. anything is possible and our dockets are notoriously unreliable. time will tell, but no matter what happens this week: davis isn’t getting off.
