The entire case here is that these were campaign expenditures paid for through shell LLCs to avoid reporting requirements. He's essentially admitting to that. (2/)
Now, the defense is that these weren't actually campaign expenditures (this is former FEC chairman Bradley Smith's case). They were personal expenditures, paid for personally. (3/)
But that's what he should be saying here. Not that he knew afterward; not that he paid personally. That he does this sort of stuff all the time, and it had nothing to do with the campaign. (END)
