Weekend experiment: a 2kb import/export shim:

Allows you to use JS modules in all browsers (and web workers!), including dynamic import(). Uses native loader if available (which is the case for most users nowadays 🎉)
Don't rush into production with this; it's not battle-tested, and there are some caveats around CSP and CORS. Mostly I'm just exploring whether an approach like this makes sense. For some apps, I think it probably does.
By advocating for shipping native modules, I'm *not* saying you shouldn't bundle, by the way. I'm saying that you should build your app with a bundler that outputs JavaScript modules (*ahem* @rollupjs). See this demo for why: shimport-demos.surge.sh/load-from-unpk…

Happy to oblige! The biggest reason that a few frameworks dominate the landscape is probably straightforward inertia. Most devs (those of use who chat about this stuff on Twitter are NOT representative) don't want to investigate and learn alternatives; they have better things 1/
to do, and engineering PMs aren't picking the 'best' technology, they're picking the safe one that means they'll be able to hire some poor sap to maintain everything a couple of years down the line. Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM. These dynamics favour incumbents. 2/
So does the cacophony of options. Why do tech meetups always serve pepperoni pizza, even though almost no-one would actually *choose* it given alternatives? Because it's something that very few people will object to. It gets the job done — it's 'good enough'. 3/

It took the whole day, but I finally got a simple Node app to work that requires you to log in with your Twitter account. So now, a rant:
Maybe I'm just a shitty programmer, but this stuff is *unbelievably complicated*. Let's start with Twitter's API documentation, which
is about as well-maintained as your department's internal wiki — all broken links, unfinished guides, bad information architecture etc.

Unfortunately, there's an annoying bug in Xcode 10's LLDB that crippled a couple chapters and prevented many LLDB scripts from executing. Since I should probably be a bit more social on the Tweeters during this time, here's a thread for the problem, find, and fix for this bug
Hopefully, this thread of debugging, reverse engineering, and extracting information out of a binary is a fun (hopefully?) read. If you're interested to learn more, the methodologies are discussed quite a bit in the book. So here we go....

k8s folks alway say "infrastructure should be boring", but we spend a lot of time on fancy non-boring stuff, like (eg) horizontal pod autoscaling.

So here's a counterfactual thread: what if k8s WAS boring?

What if `kubectl` proactively told you how your deployment was going?
What if `kubectl` proactively gave you specific, information about what caused your deployment to fail? What if that information DID NOT require wiring up complex monitoring services or buying some SaaS?
What if `kubectl` allowed you to easily inspect JSON diffs (rather than text diffs) of every change you made to your config code, and got a specific breakdown of how that change cascades through the kube resources in your app?
