Can we talk real quick about cnidophages? No seriously this is worth it. This is my story I tell when people ask me for my best animal fact.

You may have seen pictures of pretty sea slugs like these blue sea dragons before. But they have a secret.
They, like other species of sea slug, eat cnidarians like jellyfish, hydroids and sea anemones — creatures with stinging cells. But they do not get stung.

(Here's another one, Hermissenda crassicornis. I did research on this one's brain in my undergrad.)
Why don't they get stung? They're STEALING THE STINGING CELLS

Mine comes from my very first job within the industry and the only reason I feel comfortable talking about it now is because the company no longer exists 🙃
I was 20 years old when I accepted a job at Atari as a QA tester. I was hustling on the side as a writer, but still didn’t know what I wanted to do. QA would pay the bills, so why not?

I gladly accepted a low paying role at an office an hour away. I wanted to work in games.
I had interviewed in an office but prior to my first day I was told not to enter through the front, but at the loading dock out back. Turns out QA wasn’t allowed to use the front door.

The next time I’d be allowed in the actual office was when we were being laid off in Dec.

2. Before laying out my thoughts on this, a couple of caveats. Firstly, it's not the fault of survivors of extremist Christianity that mainstream America has proven largely unwilling to listen.
3. An (untenable, circular) impulse to consider "real" religion benign is baked into American national DNA, although it functions disproportionately in favor of Christianity. Christian privilege is very real.
