It's not yet 9:30am and I've seen 5 different things that made me put my head down on the table and quietly cry for a minute before continuing. The despair and hopelessness- a lot of us are feeling it. So we want to fight back, and what fight is stronger than our vote? Yes! But
The majority of us who are here on Twitter making political jokes, following the news, signing petitions, calling Congress -- we're engaged. Most of us are going to vote. We know to vote. So the calls of "please vote" on Twitter sometimes feel desperate but wasted. But still,
We want to do something. We want to make sure people show up at the polls. People who really might not. Educate the voters who weren't sure what the issues are. That's much harder. So I have a proposal. It's both simple and potentially hard, but something we engaged people can do
What if each of us commit to reaching just 1 person. One friend, family member, neighbor who either likely won't vote, or "doesn't really care about politics" and spend this month focusing on them. Making sure they're educated and voting. What if we each of us showed up plus one?
I don't mean badgering them, I mean really have those discussions, listen when their thoughts might frustrate you, find information that specifically might interest them, take them to the polls if they need transportation. Just one person. Each of us. Anyone in?
