Did you know there has never been a Native American woman in Congress? Native ppl have a complicated relationship with the U.S. government, so I do understand rationales for not voting. However, I also understand Native women are some of the best at upsetting colonial structures.
In my Indigenous Grad group, we often talk about the irony in talking about decolonization in academia, & if it’s even possible to decolonize inherently colonial spaces. But even so, Native ppl dedicated to creative change often DO change these structures in significant ways.
Am I saying Native ppl shouldn’t be building up our Nations at home? No, we in dire need of language teachers, ceremony keepers, & tribal leaders! However, we also don’t exist in isolation & think with these recent attacks on Tribal Nation sovereignty we realizing other needs.
Ppl on this platform like you can’t believe in decolonization if you uphold settler colonial structures etc., but Native ppl have been forced to be walking contradictions because of how Tribal Nation sovereignty is situated in its current form.
Yes, Native ppl are in spaces everywhere that were designed to keep us out. We are the glitches in The Matrix because we were never supposed to exist. Glitches serve a purpose though as all things do. Glitch glitch. Glitch away my people.
Also, there are 2 Native women currently running for U.S. Congress. There is @sharicedavids & @Deb4CongressNM. Vote, if you vote. If you have even $5, consider donating. Do you. I am just letting you know this is going down.
