What many of my brothers and sisters in Christ who categorize themselves as “White Evangelical Christians” do not understand about what we’ve gained and lost in the current political environment.

Let’s start out with the gains. And then the losses.
Gained:
- A couple of Justices on the Supreme Court who, we THINK, might one day vote to overturn the dreaded Roe v Wade decision.

- Tax Breaks. Which may or may not benefit us individually, depending on where we live and how much we make.
- Job Gains. While not the greatest number of jobs created during the first 20 months of a Presidential Term (it actually ranks 4th out of the past 7 Presidential terms over the past 30 years), jobs are being created. Good.
- Fewer Regulations. Generally a good thing. Depending on the regulation and whether or not there was a valid reason for it.

I’m sure there are a few other things that we can talk about that are genuinely good. Cool. Take stock of what you see the benefits are.
What have we lost:
- Credibility. Nobody believes anymore than Christian Conservatives care about family values. Or morality. Anyone who suggests otherwise will have most of the rest of the country laugh in their faces. The sanctity of marriage? Forget it, dude. Over. Done.
- Our witness. You may not realize it yet, but the word “Evangelical” now has a distinctly negative connotation amongst those who most need to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. Tried witnessing to anybody lately? They’re rejecting Christ not because of Him but because of us.
- Our Admonition of our children. While you are cheering on the SCOTUS Justices and the tax cuts, you may also be telling your kids things like “don’t lie” or “treat women with respect.” But you also showed them these things DON’T matter. Don’t be surprised if they’re confused.
- Racial healing. When you tolerate racism or tolerate those who tolerate racism, have you ever thought about what your brothers and sisters in Christ who are of other hues may be thinking? Ever wonder why your multicultural church is now not as multicultural?
Some of you guys, without really realizing it are, like a crab getting used to gradually boiling water, getting comfortable with concepts that are foreign to Scripture and an insult to God. Little forays into ethnonationalism. Belief in an “us versus them” defined by the world.
Truth. There are more than a few self-identifying Bible Believing Christians who are so committed to their political identity that they justify blatant lying. Maybe that lie isn’t really a lie. Maybe it’s okay to lie b/c the Dems are out to get us. Justifying what God condemns.
Instead of emulating God’s thinking and seeing every human being as something God created and which Jesus died to save, some of us are repeating hateful rhetoric that compares them to infesting insects.
Most of the churches that the Lord Jesus spoke to in Revelation 2 and 3 thought they were doing great. They weren’t. At all.

Many of the people who are described in Matthew 7:21-23 think that they’re Christians. But they find out they’re not.
And many people think that some of the things that have occurred in our politics latently are net wins. But they’re not thinking about what we’ve lost. It’s not a net win but a loss.
