@charliekirk11 During the first 112 years of the Republican Party’s history, the party was viewed favorably by many blacks who could vote.

Then 1964 happened. And the GOP Presidential nomination was won by a good man (Goldwater) who took a bad position (against the Civil Rights Act).
@charliekirk11 Goldwater was not a racist. He was an ultra-libertarian and didn’t think the government could force private businesses to serve black customers. But for southern segregationists, that was close enough.
@charliekirk11 Black support for the GOP fell from 32% in the 1960 election to 6% in the 1964 election. And in the 54 years since, it has never significantly risen.

Some of those former Democrats who had segregationist views found a new home in the GOP. And then the Southern Strategy happened.
@charliekirk11 In the past 54 years, the GOP has adjusted to the political realignment that occurred in 1964 and has done little to try to repair the alienation with black voters. Many in the party have done a lot to make it worse.
@charliekirk11 And so the premise of your question is flawed. People don’t pay attention to the first 112 years of the party’s history because they’re looking at the past 54 years of it. People look at the recent history first. The distant past is less relevant than the present and recent past.
