1/ Wow, 30.000 camels, a monkey temple, cows with 5 legs. India is truly amazing. And I even learned some Bollywood dancing. Here my travel piece from India.

٣٠ الف ابل، أفاعي، بقر ذو ٥ ارجل، معبد للقرد ورقص بوليوود: هذا ما رأيته في الهند الساحرة. 👇

2/ Our drone footage from 2018 #Pushkar camel fair in #India.

Similar to Lion King trailer except our budget wasn't 250 million USD but an 800$ drone & 5 pakoras.

Enjoy the Camel King trailer.

(And here my India travel piece: )

3/ Not to scare the camels, we flew as high as we can with our drone.

The camels never heard or felt anything. Also in total we used the drone in one week only for about 20 min.

Drones provide great footage but of course if everyone starts using them its a nightmare.

@akhbar
4/ Before I tell u about india, I want to say sth.

Some ask: U normally report on war, ISIS, terrorism so why now on camel fair?

I sometimes need change from hate, death, fear of my beat. I need positive stories. Colorful, cultures mixing &no fear.

Call it therapy reporting.
5/ I first arrived in #Delhi. First day was bit foggy/smoggy but next days beautiful, sunny. Some parts of Delhi very green.

I took metro or rikshaw to see Moghul tumbs. Very stunning, especially Humayun's tomb and Isa Khan's garden tomb &mosque.

@akhbar ImageImageImageImage
6/ I really liked #Delhi. The city has a lot of character.

Old Delhi insanely crowded. It was shortly before diwali so everywhere people selling flowers. So colourful.

And the barber shop is right on the pavement!

@akhbar ImageImageImageImage
7/ After Delhi, I moved to Neemrana, just across the state border into #Rajasthan. Amazing hotel there. Look at this photo.

Old fortress. Really nice and magical. I was staying in a room that was built in the 15th century!

@akhbar Image
8/ Hotel in Neemrana, #Rajasthan was wonderful. During early morning, monkeys roaming around in the garden near to my room.

And they were shooting a Bollywood music clip on the terrace of the hotel. So obviously I had to try &learn some dance steps!

@akhbar ImageImageImageImage
9/ And to be honest, I am a bit scared of monkeys.

It's the first time in my life that I see monkeys. But that's also the beauty of travelling and experiencing new things for the first time.

@akhbar
10/ After Neemrana, I went to #Jaipur. And what a city that is!

It is famous for Hawa Mahal (The Wind Palace).

Look at this stunning place.

Has around 900 windows. Women of the Maharaja, not to be seen by the public, used to watch through them daily life outside.

@akhbar Image
11/ Jaipur is known as the pink city. So much to see there. Didn't know where to start.

Many buildings pink here. The splendor of the Moon palace, the stunning reading room in Samode haveli and the city palace with its beautiful gates.

@akhbar ImageImageImageImage
12/ For the morning crowd:

This is our short video of the world's largest Camel fair in #Pushkar, #India. Come for the camels, stay for the drone shots by @HaraldDoornbos.

تصوير جوي من بلدة #بوشكار الهندية لأكبر سوق للإبل في العالم.

13/ A beautiful scene from #Jaipur.

Kids play cricket while an elephant hangs around.

@akhbar Image
14/ I saw these dogs laying on a road in Pushkar, India.

Me: Who is the guilty one?
Dogs: "It wasn't us!"

🤔 Image
15/ Couple of more of our pictures from #pushkar camel fair just because it's a pity not to share something so beautiful. 🐪🐪🐪

Massive explosion rocks Beirut. I checked on my family there before posting. Our house was shaking but everyone is okay.

This is insane!

@akhbar
This is a video filmed by someone who was standing on his balcony close to the port of #Beirut.

First you see big plumes of smoke followed by small explosions on ground level and finally an enormous explosion.

I hope the person who filmed this is safe.

@akhbar
Lebanon Health minister just said that hundreds of Lebanese were injured in this massive blast in #Beirut today.

Reasons still unknown.

Number of dead not clear.

And the destruction in property and shops is enormous.

Today six years ago, the Yazidi genocide began.

As I travelled through Iraq and Syria, I saw with my own eyes the result of this ISIS terror.

Engraved in my memory is the eight yr old Yazidi girl who had been enslaved by ISIS since she was five. 😢

@akhbar

3 yrs ago, I interviewed ISIS women in Syria who just got out of Raqqa.

Back then I posted this long thread in English about what ISIS women told me about slavery, Yazdis etc.

I think it's useful to read this thread today - 6 yrs after Yazidi genocide.

1/ Big news from Egypt.

After 100+ women came out via social media accusing a 22-year old man of having raped/sexually abused them, authorities just now arrested the suspect.

I spoke to one of the women accusing him of sexual assault.

In this thread her story.

@akhbar
2/ Let me 1st explain this:

Stories about the alleged rapist went viral after account @assaultpolice received testimonies about the suspect, whose initials are #ABZ.

Then more &more Egyptian women posted their horror stories about him.

Lili is one of them. Her story:

@akhbar
3/ "I was 18 yrs old when I was sexually assaulted by this guy," Lili tells me.

Lili isn't her real name. She explains: "I'm scared he will try to find and hurt me again. I want to speak out but please don't mention my name. I haven't even told my family anything."

1/ Fascinating. In June 2001 journalist Baker Atyani was last reporter to meet Osama Bin Laden before 9/11.

In this interview @atyanibaker tells me the backstage story of this remarkable meeting.

Part I:

- First contact with OBL
- Trip to Afghanistan

2/ Second part of my interview with @atyanibaker, last reporter to meet OBL before 9/11:

He tells me backstage story:

- I met OBL+Zawahiri near Kandahar.
- OBL aid said: "We're preparing to hit US+Israel".
- They wanted me to tell the world this message.
3/ This is 3rd part of my long interview with @atyanibaker, the last journalist who met OBL before 9/11:

Bin Laden's chef prepared mansaf (Jordanian rice dish) for me," Atyani remembers, "that mansaf was pretty good. Maybe chef was Jordanian.

In this short video, I look back at the first week of the trial in Hamburg against ISIS woman Omaima Abdi, whose phone content I obtained in Syria.

Some of her claims in court don't really add up.

Watch this:

@akhbar
During 1st week of her trial in Hamburg, ISIS woman Omaima Abdi blamed her husband. He wanted to go to Syria &was abusive, she claims.

These stories I often hear from ISIS wives. Very convenient. Especially when husband is dead and you can't verify story.
During her trial in Hamburg, Omaima Abdi also claimed in statement she was scared not to wear the niqab when she went out in Raqqa, suggesting niqab was forced upon her.

But long before Omaima went to Syria she already -voluntarily- wore niqab in Germany.

Big day.

Today in Hamburg the trial starts against German/Tunisian ISIS woman Omaima Abdi. She joined ISIS in Syria &returned to Hamburg as if nothing had happened.

Then we found her Syria phone with 1000s of pics on it.

She got arrested &now faces multiple charges.

@akhbar
I was planning to be today in the courtroom in Hamburg to report on the trial against ISIS woman Omaima Abdi. But due to coronacrisis, I cannot travel to Germany.

So I gave this long interview to @sternde and spoke in details about the case.

@akhbar
