New Switch for Christmas!!! Gonna see how long the kids will go hooking it up while I explain networking!!!

Thankfully they have never seen either type of Switch. Also thankfully they don't know what EOL is
They are attempting to hook it up!
Apparently 7 year old friend has a switch he is so excited and assisting in setting it up.
He said this is the oldest switch 🤣🤣🤣 apparently I didnt clean all of the giant dust bunnies off of it.
We have lights and noise from fans!! They are very excited learning about super subletting and broadcast zones.
They can't figure out how to get it on the TV. Learning about client isolation and VLAN tagging while trying to figure it out.
Lost attention span.... Too many other toys. I told them we would come back to it with a laptop and a rollover cable.
Okay all hooked up. We had to take a slight detour and learn about driver emulation - usb to serial.
They are pounding away trying to figure out how to play this new Switch.
We are learning about mac addresses and 9 year old remembers they are layer 2 from before
Team effort to figure this out. 9 yr old attempting to follow my instructions but 5 yr old keeps hitting touch pad messing it up.
7 yr old says "this isn't fun" I asked I thought you wanted a switch and to learn something? I ask do you like networking? He says "no" 9 yr old says "maybe"
They have successfully committed a command! Though all will be lost if we reboot....

Networking is fun!
He asked where are the controllers? Ahh good question. Let's open another present
Where is the game? Another good question let's open another present.
Still problem solving - trying to figure out how to get these controllers and game to work on this switch.....

3yr old now excited to help.

RJ45's are being shoved I to everything
Good questions coming. Where do these go? Where do I put this?
We have reached an excited and frustrating moment they dont want to give up but networking is hard.

I have reached said moments many times with Cisco devices. I feel their pain. Time for one last present.
All is right and kids are happy. Merry Christmas!!
They spent just over an hour on the OG switch. Very impressed. I thought 5 min and they would check out.
Best part - just now 9 yr old says "why do they all like it ?" (meaning y'all) I said because I gave you a different switch. She says: "wait there is two of them?" So I asked 7 and 5 yr olds if I can take the big switch out

"No we still want to play Super Mario Smash Bros"
They think it is required for the last present Switch to work.

Talk about legacy IT. Don't touch that server. What does it do? I don't know but we just need everything to work.
