.@realdonaldtrump Talk to some real federal workers, Mr. President. Not the ones you just made up in your head at a press conference. These are real people who are struggling because of your shutdown.
I got a call today from a federal worker in Centreville, VA who doesn’t know how she’ll buy groceries for her kids and sick husband.
I received a letter today from a government contractor in Arlington, VA who’s about to shut down his small business because he can’t make payroll.

Take your pick, but don’t for a second pretend that federal workers are lining up cheering on your shutdown. They’re worried about how they’re going to pay their bills.

What I had hoped to hear from the President tonight was ​a plan to make sure our government stays up and running ten days from now, and a willingness to work with Congress to make sure that a shutdown never happens again.
Unfortunately, what the American people got was more of the same partisan fear-mongering and one-sided demands.
It's deeply disappointing to the hundreds of thousands of federal workers and contractors across the Commonwealth and the country who are once again bracing for the worst.

Roger Stone has been indicted for covering up his engagements with Wikileaks, which U.S. intelligence officials and the Senate Intel Committee have publicly designated as a hostile intelligence service, regarding the public release of emails stolen by the Russian government.
Roger Stone and Donald Trump have known each other for nearly forty years. Mr. Stone played a key role in recruiting Paul Manafort to run the Trump campaign.
And, he publicly claimed on several occasions to remain in regular contact with then-candidate Trump throughout the 2016 presidential race, even after he formally departed the Trump campaign.

Today @TimKaine and I heard from federal workers who missed paychecks their families depend on today because of the President’s shutdown. Some of these stories are just heart-wrenching.
Almost everyone was worried about missing a mortgage, car, or student loan payment.
One new father told me he was unable to get medicine for his seven-week-old daughter for a time because the worker processing her insurance was furloughed. rollcall.com/news/congress/…

If I was a federal employee, I would have minimal 4 months of bills in reserves. Period. It's call PLANNING.
Seeing how this happened 19 prior times since 1976, stands to reason yes?
Then, once I get my back pay, replace the depleted funds.
Don't expect me to get all upset for people that fail to plan for obvious potential issues.
Only excuse is a newer hire that didn't have the opportunity just yet to tuck away the funds.
Save the "but the contractors". These federal contracts are some freaking windfalls. VERY GENEROUS. Why do you think so many dream of landing a governments contact? They pay $500 for hammers!
They'll be just fine.

Right now: Activists with @WomenforTrump are gathering at the Capitol for a “Build the Wall” press conference with @replouiegohmert as the host and several parents of children who lost their lives to drugs speaking.

The group wants to ”End the #Shutdown and build the wall.”

Today, @replouiegohmert led a "Build the Wall" press conference attended by a few other members of congress and a coalition of Trump supporters.

He said that for America to be a "shining light on a hill," it needs "secure borders."

.@senatemajldr McConnell clearly knows about the United States Constitution’s Presentment Clause override provisions, and knows his assertion that the President must sign a law is false.
.@senatemajldr also knows that the bills that would end the shutdown got huge, veto-proof majorities in the Senate.

This is his #shutdown as much as anyone’s now.

On Oct 26 2006 Congress passed The Secure Fence Act 120 STAT. 2638 PUBLIC LAW 109–367 with 283 votes in the House & 80 in the Senate, including unanimous Democratic support. This included $20 billion in funding for multi layer fencing along about 600 miles of the US-Mexico border
This wasn't a solid 600 miles of continuous fencing along the border, this was bits and pieces, mostly erected with surplus Marston Mats used by the Military to laydown in areas that the ground isn't solid enough to handle landing gear, the military has mountains of it.
in 2007 Congress made clear it didn't really mean what it said. The new law was amended to make fence building optional. so you ended up with very little fencing and $20 billion pretty much unaccounted for, dispersed to heavens knows where. No one was held accountable for the $$
