A weird tack for a guy whose whole pitch is his elder-statesman avuncularity to take. "I don't want to run, but all the kids in the race are crap, so here I am" is the opposite of the tone I'd have expected him to set.
Just a reminder that his instincts for primary-race messaging have never been any good, I guess.
"We have a great, deep field, and I'm honored to be running alongside this crew. Whichever of us wins the nomination would be a far better president than Trump, and if it's not me, I'll be working night and day to be sure they get to prove it" is Biden's natural lane right now.

Trump's net popularity in his first year in office wobbled around between about -15 and -20. In his second year it rose a bit, to the -10 to -15 range. Remarkably consistent overall, but the upward shift seems to have been real.
A month ago, Trump's net popularity was around -9, about as high as its ever been (except for the first few weeks after inauguration). He's lost about five points since then.
So he's still within his 2018 range, though at the low end of it. And he's got a bit more to lose before he starts hitting his 2017 troughs. As of today, in other words, his polls still look pretty ordinary.

The kid just texted me a Trump tweet and said “I feel like he’d be really bad at poker.”
The kid now says that in addition to presidential debates next year, the candidates should have to play poker against each other on television, with their cards visible to the viewers like on televised tournaments. It's possible she may be a genius.
I do worry that this debate format is one that Ted Cruz might thrive in. But other than that, I'm completely invested.

The headline of this article undersells the story dramatically: The FBI investigation in question took place in 2017, and was intended to determine whether Trump was working for the Russians AS PRESIDENT. nytimes.com/2019/01/11/us/…
Again, the FBI launched an investigation, in 2017, into whether the President of the United States was "secretly in contact with or [taking] direction from Russian government officials."
There's clearly a tremendous amount that hasn't yet been made public about the unprecedented weirdness that is the Trump presidency.

Guy walks into a debate tells America he’s gonna protect ‘em by buildin’ a yuge wall. Gonna cost a few billion bucks. Best thing ‘bout it though - the people it’s gonna keep out’ll pay for it! Great, right? Not so fast. Turns out those people ain’t payin’ for it, no way no how.
So this guy needs America to front him the dough. Problem is, now the walls a fence, and everybody that’s anybody’s been sayin’ the whole thing’s stupid. Also, guy’s got a history of losin’ his shirt and leavin’ his clients holdin’ da bill. So folks in Congress tell him “no way.”
And the guy goes nuts! Says he’s gonna shut everything down! Says he’s proud to do it! He’s gonna take the heat! Thing is, guy’s whole life he’s stiffed people that work for him. So what’s he care it’s Christmas?
Only good thing, he won’t get to go to Florida. Some justice...

Here's my suggestion folks as things get crazier towards Nov and beyond...if you have a MAGA person in your life that you can't (or don't want to) push out of your life. Maybe it's a parent, whatever.

Here's my survival tips.
First, you have to stay frosty.

This means you can't get emotional during any of it. Yeah, this can be hard for some people and if it is...then you simply can't engage with them. You're doing yourself no good if you do. IF you can't keep your emotions in check, just end any
conversation with a pat phrase you come up with that works for your sitch. Something akin to: You're not right, this is ALL wrong, and I don't have the time or patience for this nonsense.

Something that conveys that however appropriate for you. Be firm, don't get sucked in.
