So @page88 nominated me to post one book that I love a day for seven days.

I nominate @pithywidow & @MarkHertling to do the same!

Day one I will post below: /1
Day one: Last Night in Montreal. Beautifully written, ethereal, agonizing, haunting. A love story for those of us always between worlds:
DAY TWO: The Neverending Story. Don't think this is a kids book or the movie: it ain't. It's dark & philosophical, looks at how people make bad choices, lose everything, survive, rebuild. It is deep & has the answer to everything. Cc @MarkHertling @page88 @pithywidow @Mimirocah1
DAY THREE: 8 Pieces of Empire. One of my favorite tellings of the Soviet collapse. Poignant, human stories that capture the confusion, beauty, hope, and hopelessness of the newly independent states and the Russia they left behind. Cc @page88 @pithywidow @MarkHertling @Mimirocah1
I missed DAY FOUR b/c there was a Lego emergency (don't ask), but in that spirit I offer Agent to the Stars by @scalzi. His other books are cutting examinations of our conceptions of war, peace, & society, but this is gasp-for-air funny. I read it anytime I start hating everyone.
DAY FIVE rec is Pattern Recognition, by @GreatDismal. This book remains one of my favorite evaluations of the unmoored-ness and confusions of the post-9/11 world, written with all of Gibson's usual gift of lovely prose and reflection on what technology is doing to us.
DAY SIX: The Coming Plague by @Laurie_Garrett. Read every page of monster tome as part of high school thesis. It transformed way I understood how humans interact w/ & impact their environment, & what it costs. Everyone should read this. Fab storytelling. Cc @MarkHertling @page88
