How much longer will this administration expect @chefjoseandres to pick up the slack?
I mean, I have nothing but glowing things to say about @chefjoseandres -- and my nephew did run across a Jaleo this week waving his underwear over his head and they didn't complain -- but when it's normal to expect a chef to provide consistent emergency services -- where are we?
This man is inspiring. Maybe he wants $1.6 billion to build something actually useful.
Look at this. It's a disgrace.

Was thinking about @kenvogel piece on Treasury allowing Deripaska to restructure companies to evade sanctions in icky ways, & decided to go look at the foreign agent (FARA) filings for Deripaska's reps

As a former former agent I know the database and I get really offended at people who evade the transparency disclosures. FARA has a really high reporting standard. No one likes it, it's a pain in the butt, but it's important. /2
So I went to see who was registered as a foreign agent for any Russian interests.

And, despite Kremlin money blanketing Washington, the answer is: NO ONE

What I actually say in the piece is that students need to develop technical proficiency and this presents all kinds of unfair challenges and tensions because activism is often necessary but it’s unfortunately falling on students to do because faculty don’t pick up the slack
The title that’s actually on the site is much closer to the one I suggested and I’m not really sure why it has the twitter card title that it does. But I hope people will read the piece and not just judge the title that was not chosen by or cleared with the author.

Yesterday in class we talked about NATO, and my military students were sincerely curious about why the US is still in NATO, since those countries should “pay for their own defense”.
I think this common belief misunderstands much of NATO’s purpose. A thread.

Lord Ismay, NATO’s 1st SecGen, famously said NATO’s job was to “keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down”.
NATO was NEVER *just* a defensive alliance that should have dissolved as soon as the threat went away. It was also about solving the German Problem.
2/
The German Problem is that a united GER is, by all material measures, a potential great power, sitting in the middle of EUR w/ no defensible borders, constituting a threat to its neighbors just by existing.
No EUR-wide peace/coop is possible w/o assurance that GER isn’t a threat

Building a base in Jiwani (or nearby) would make a great deal of sense for China. After all, China is desperately dependent on imported oil to run its ever-growing economy. And Jiwani sits nearby the incredibly vital Strait of Hormuz. maritime-executive.com/article/china-…

Every year the same pair of finches returns to the bush outside my office window, and every year they have the same debate about whether or not to build their nest in exactly the same place. It is like an Avian Love It or List It.
Like clockwork, they show up at 1:30 each afternoon, each with a single twig each. I presume that either a) they are a sloppy couple who sleeps in until noon each day or 2) they have spent all morning sourcing these twigs.
For thirty minutes, they hop around the top of the bush with the twigs, fretting about location.

im always paranoid about sharing this stuff bc i do it so often i get on my own nerves so im sure it gets annoying. but im sharing this bc 1 - if the shit that happens to me can help someone else its worth it and 2 - ppl shld know you dont have to accept shit treatment from docs
so my life has been updated with new problems, so i need to adjust the rx ive been taking so that it addresses all the new ones too (shout out to celexa, woo!).after a full month of trying and failing i finally find one & she can see me soon. i book an appointment.

3/ On top of that, my husband has severe chronic pain issues and I have the majority of all the home tasks, in addition to helping him with his ADLs (activities of daily living) to allow him to keep working because we can’t afford for him to quit.
