The #EATLancet campaign is a very problematic one. This thread is a compilation of articles that address issues of concern that the mainstream media choose to ignore.
Let me start with this article that I wrote with @docmartincohen:
Overview of US food availability data over past 2 centuries: dramatic increase in (ultra)processed foods, while animal fat declined. In parallel: a rising incidence of non-communicable diseases.

"The unprocessed elements of our 19th century diet–animal fats, whole fat dairy, fresh vegetables & fruits—were progressively replaced with more processed elements, including industrial seed oils, HFCS, and ready-to-eat snacks and meals" frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
"Data do not support the widely publicized “changing American diet” of increasing animal-derived SFAs over the first 60 y of the 20th C. Rather, polyunsaturated fats & partially hydrogenated fats from vegetable oils progressively replaced lard, butter,..." frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
Ian Givens (Reading University): "half of females aged between 11 and 18 were consuming below the minimum recommended level of iron and magnesium and a quarter consumed too little iodine, calcium and zinc" thetimes.co.uk/article/women-…
Financial Times @ft: "#Plantbased meat is losing its sizzle, with falling US sales casting a shadow over expectations that the nascent category would take a chunk out of the real animal #meat market" ft.com/content/61e782…
This doesn't seem to help their case: "Taco Bell has rejected a #plantbased carne asada from Beyond Meat. [F]ood testers [..] found it to be below the standard of moving to a test phase & serving it to customers" yahoo.com/lifestyle/taco…
"Investors expressed concern [..] that customers might not be getting the idea behind Beyond Meat"
Or maybe that's precisely what is happening and people *are* getting "the idea behind Beyond Meat"? barrons.com/articles/beyon…
If psychopaths take over, #FoodSystems would look like this: end agriculture, eat microbial glop.
"replacing agricultural primary production with electrically powered microbial primary production [.] could alleviate agriculturally driven climate change" iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108…
"All participants reported improved wellbeing & quality of life since taking up the diet. These improvements are related to health; interpersonal relationships; learning & growth; simplicity & independence".
"Physical health benefits related to the digestive system (e.g., reduction or elimination of irritable bowel syndrome symptoms); integumentary system (e.g., smoother skin, stronger hair, and nails); and musculoskeletal system (e.g., reduced joint and back pain)"
Dystopian idea, & it will not happen. If he thinks that the entire world will happily substitute the foods they have always cherished & thrived on since the beginning of humanity for his company's drab assortment of protein-isolate imitations, his hubris is in for a big surprise.
No matter how much support he's getting from friends in high places...
