I am at the cafe--not the coffee shop, still waiting on the reopen--and some dude is talking about the law of attraction and changing the polarity. His date(?) has her arms folded in polite waiting-for-him-to-stop.
"You could change the polarity and turn it down. You should try that. It's so great! Maybe this summer, you know. I'm sure there are guys who are attracted to you, you just need to change the polarity." Maybe this isn't a date.
She said something. He says: "So my question to you is, is this in the past? The recent past?" I can't understand what she's saying, her voice falls right in my deaf spot.

I have...successfully recreated 70s bodice-ripper lettering.

If only I had been trying to do that.
Honestly, I’m just staring at it and it is so perfectly a Johanna Lindsey circa 1980 lettering that I kinda love it. It’s completely unusable, but oh my god.

1/ We need to change how we tax the richest Americans. We right now do it ineffectively. The Warren wealth tax proposal is a big move to try to change that and make sure the best off really pay according to ability.
2/ Why are we so ineffective at taxing those at the top in the income tax? Because of two things—the “realization rule” and “step up in basis.”
3/ The very top get a lot of their income from sale of property (sometimes mixing in their labor like a founder of a company). We only tax when sold (“realized”) and if they hold until death, then basis steps up and the gain is never taxed (“step up”).

Modi and BJP won because they defined a lot of demons to the common people:
Political Corruption,
Corporate Corruption,
Islamic Terror,
Christian evangelism,
Engineered demographic changes,
Illegal immigration,
They fought none of these demons visibly head on.
The BJP kept convincing people that they are not a part of the same demons- that they are not corrupt and they are not supporting some of the other vices, but they never are seen as actually and effectively fighting and containing these.
No guts, no glory.
The Gandhis, Vadras et al are still free,
Was Vadra's 'security screening exemption' removed finally? If it was, was that advertised as loudly as the exemption was??

A lot of people believe Gillibrand acted on her own against Franken. That's demonstrably false. She was one of a group of a half dozen women senators who coordinated their responses.
Nobody's written a deep-dive history of how the Franken thing went down yet, but coverage at the time made it clear that Gillibrand was the spokesperson for a substantial fraction of the caucus, not a lone wolf.
But it's not really in anyone's interest to point out that Gillibrand was part of a team right now, so you wind up with coverage like this, which misrepresents the history in a major way. politico.com/story/2018/11/…
