I'm actually headed to the centrist rally, i.e. Howard Schultz's book event at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square tonight.

Who exactly is attending this sold-out event? I will find out.
About 10 minutes until Howard Schultz speaks. A lot of people here have expressed admiration for Schultz, and there are people in the back standing to see the talk.

Two people spotted: Mic co-founders Chris Altchek and Jake Horowitz.
A man was just escorted out of the building after interrupting Schultz's opening comments.

“DON’T HELP ELECT TRUMP"

"GO BACK TO DAVOS"
"DON'T HELP ELECT TRUMP, YOU EGOTISTICAL [inaudible] GO BACK TO GETTING RATIO'D ON TWITTER. GO BACK TO DAVOS"

He is booed, told to sit down and then escorted out.
Andrew Ross Sorkin tries to discuss the protestor's concerns -- "maybe in more polite terms."

Schultz brings up that 42% of Americans identify as independents and believe there are "lifelong Democrats" and "lifelong Republicans" who want a new home.
Kicker: “I’m not trying to win the Twitter primary”
Schultz says he is concerned about the Democrats moving to the “far, far left." He also just said the extreme wings of both parties, the "far left and far right," "do not represent the silent majority of Americans."
Second protestor, this one interrupting while Schultz ridicules idea of “government-paid health care for everyone”:

"HEALTH CARE IS A HUMAN RIGHT. HEALTH CARE IS A HUMAN RIGHT"

Someone told him to shut up.
(I am truly sorry I did not get video)
Andrew Ross Sorkin asks Howard Schultz if he would drop out should the polls show he would increase Trump's odds of getting elected.

“I can’t answer that question today, but I’m certainly not going to do anything to put Donald Trump back in the Oval Office.”
Howard Schultz now addressing income inequality:

“The inequality is real and must be addressed, but not in a punitive way. What is required is leadership."

“We can’t continue to add onto the debt. We can’t continue to add onto the inequality.”
Asked if Dems could do anything to change his mind, Schultz replies: "No"

"I don’t think their views represent the majority of Americans ... I don’t think we want a 70 percent income tax in America (???), and I certainly don't think we can afford the things they're suggesting"
Here's my story from Howard Schultz's event tonight in Manhattan, where two hecklers made their anger felt and Schultz doled out some eyebrow-raising thoughts on inequality and taxes.
