Was in a conversation this evening and remembered a time when I used to go to see films screened on Upper West Side of NYC at William K Everson's place, he was an NYU film prof, who had this crazy collection of American films, long before streaming. nytimes.com/1996/04/16/nyr…
I remember being in Everson's place, looking around at giant stacks of films piled up, and thinking, this is crazy, these are only copies left of all these films Hollywood studios made. What if his place filled with dust burned down. Glad to see now NYU has taken the collection.
I was not a huge fan of his film criticism or the film books he had written. (sorry) But this was such an old school NYC event, the gatherings at his place to screen films. It was like a NYC Godard moment. A very different era.
