I know youth is rash but at 16 years old I didn’t have the slightest interest in joining a brutal caliphate of terrorists who bragged about murdering thousands of people and sexually enslaving ethnic minorities so please stop making excuses for teenage girls who did so
I interviewed several Yazidi women who repeatedly stated that most of the women married to ISIS fighters were unthinkably cruel and abusive. You don’t get to apologize for participating in that. No one should feel sorry for you and you should pay the full price for your actions.
If we’re going to use babies as a reason to sympathize with these women, give some thought to one Yazidi woman I spoke with who told me she watched her sister’s two-year-old ripped from her arms and shot in the head in front of her eyes. Those babies matter. They deserve justice.
I’m not saying the children of women who joined ISIS should be punished, but their mothers willingly participated in robbing many other women of their babies. I don’t have a moment’s regard for their pleas for sympathy and people who do should consider the horrors they inflicted.
