One of the best things about doing comics is that I feel like other people are being paid to do fan art for me, all the time. "I get to make someone DRAW THIS" is often said, in hushed tones.
Like, the last page of the first issue of NIGHTCRAWLER? My inner teenage girl punched the goddamn sky.
I get to make people draw SUCH AMAZING THINGS in my Lumberjanes annual. And today I got a bunch of Spider-Gwen pages that were just like OH SHIT WHAT LOOK AT THAT WHAT.

As we approach the cut-off for Hugo nominations, I want to remind folks that the October Daye series IS eligible this year, on account of the genuinely horrifying number of words I've added to it over the last few years.
I try not to be all "hey hey me over here nominate me," but the rules in this category are just new enough, and hence confusing enough, that I really do feel like clarifying my eligibility matters.
(Also I am occasionally a petulant princess, and at least one person has said that my being nominated again would show "a lack of breadth" for the category, where Lois McMaster Bujold winning twice apparently did not show a lack of breadth?)

Today is THURSDAY.
Yesterday was WEDNESDAY.
Wednesday is NEW COMIC BOOK DAY.

All of which means, when put together, that I am now the published author of an X-Men ongoing.
THE AMAZING NIGHTCRAWLER is only five issues long (I almost typed six just there, that's how much I don't want this to be over), but it's still an ongoing. Same creative team, same editor (hi, @chrisrobinson!), same everything for five issues.
Even if Marvel decided tomorrow that I was too me to work with ("me" can mean so many things, from "distracted by novels" to "filled my editor's office with live frogs"), I would still be the author of an X-Men ongoing. And that's amazing.

One of the best things I ever learned was you don't have to be "better" than the people who treated you like shit. You don't have to bury your bitterness or anger or whatever. You can hate them and you don't have to forgive them. You don't have to be better
You don't deserve to bear that burden, especially because you were the one wronged in the first place. You don't have to be loaded down with the initial shit and then the added shit of trying to be all sweetness and forgiveness and light. You get to be human
You don't invalidate what was done to you if you're anything less than a stained-glass saint.

So if it helps? Keep hating & being bitter. Keep delighting in anything bad that happens to the people who hurt you. Don't force yourself into the pain of forgiveness if you don't want

Since we're all talking about Mark Chiarello leaving DC today, I thought it would be nice (and handy) to make a thread with some of his work. Many people love his work without even realizing he was behind those titles.
He drew and painted that "Batman/Houdini" comic that was written by Howard Chaykin
"Silver Surfer - Parable" was written by Stan Lee, drawn by Moebius, and then colored by Chiarello

One of the best things you can do in this new year is to sit down every weekend and automate/tune up one single thing about your personal finances, whether that's an autopay for your utilities or for the first time ever looking at your company's 401k distributions for you.
Did you know that if your company has a retirement plan for you, that you can change how they've allocated it in terms of investments? Go look into it and spend even 15 minutes looking at how your money has been invested. Even if it's just a few dollars.
I winced away from the idea of looking at money for so long. I had/have/absolutely will have forever some monster student loans. Didn't come from wealthy folk, so I didn't understand anything about it and was in general scared of it.

I hate that this needs to be posted, but here we go. The comic industry isn't dying. Sales aren't imploding. The most true thing about comics right now is that little has changed in the last 10-20 years. And that IS a problem... just not the problem we hear about. #comics /1
I completely get why some things are discouraging. Comics feel like they have changed a lot over the last ten years in particular, but in many ways comics have played it safe more than taken risks. But to a lot of readers the recent past is pretty disheartening. I get it. /2
Part of the problem is us. Me. You. We have access to a huge amount of content that 20-30 years ago was a bit harder to get. This means that amazing comics are at our beck and call whenever we want. It also means that the monthly crop of comics has no prayer of stacking up. /3

One of the best things that ever happened to the opposition forces in Nigeria pre-2015 was the loss of five AD states in 2003, leaving Gov. Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Capo Di Tutti of the AD - and I once highlighted this in a previous thread.

Whatever Bola wanted done, the AD did.
Bola Tinubu literally financed the AD in many states, determined who was candidate and oftentimes imposed them on his colleagues the past Governors - none of whom could disagree (except Pa Adefarati in Ondo) since Tinubu was sole financier.

By 2007, he changed the party name.
From AD to AC to ACN - Tinubu determined the pace and tone of opposition all alone.

If he wanted Lai Moh’d to demand GEJ as VP declare his assets publicly and GEJ complied then asked Fashola to do same, then same Tinubu asked same Lai to hypocritically defend Fashola - he did.

One of the biggest mistakes newbies make is spending time/money to turn an idea into reality BEFORE they've even validated it will actually work.

Learning how to validate ideas fast was one of the best things I ever did.

In this thread, I share what I've learned...
Validating an idea means figuring out whether or not it will actually work before taking the time to actually build everything out.
It's important to know how to validate because it prevents you from wasting time on low ROI shit that doesn't produce results.

Being able to validate ideas fast is what separates entrepreneurs from "wantrepreneurs."
