I always forget that other countries don't have our cool naval titles.

First Lord is still a 'real' one, but we still have loads that USED to be critical, but are now largely ceremonial

E.g. Baron Boyce. Ex-First Lord. He's still Warden of the Cinque Ports, Keeper of the Coast
(Because Warden of the Cinque Ports is a life post).
The one I would 100% revive if I was in charge of the country though is Count of the Saxon Shore, a sort of combined arms (naval/army) position.

Okay, so to avoid this getting lost in the new song thread tomorrow, I thought I'd announce a couple of new pledge levels, based on your comments.

Now just to note: THERE IS MORE WE INTEND TO ADD TO THE FULL CAMPAIGN PACK. We just can't announce it/show you yet (but soon!).

But if you JUST want the mug and have pledged lower, then at least you've got an interim upgrade path now.

So the first person mentioned is @dduane and I have talked about how her books got me reading as a kid before.

I won't rehash that too much, but I was about nine and I read because people EXPECTED me to, not because I wanted to. Then I read her books and they blew me away.
She's had to put up with me tweeting about this already and I've no desire to embarrass her further, when more often these days I get to discuss with her how a dragon would take down a cruise missile. Because Twitter is the fucking best.

(I might go slow, as I want to make them as interesting as possible, and I’ll try not to recycle ones that I’ve already posted about on other occasions)
1) “vom Leder ziehen”: to loudly complain about something or rip somebody a new one — literally “to pull out of the leather” in reference to pulling a gun from its holster
2) “shade” and “shadow” are not distinguished in the German language, making me sound very weird when I mix them up (honestly I just use “shadow” 100% of the time)

Principle 1: Confusion

Confuse your enemy as often as possible, he should not be able to predict your next move and not know where to go himself.

Confusion begets hesitation, making him wonder what could happen and what he should do will exhaust his resources.
In war, hesitation is fatal. Use it to your advantage, initiate first strikes and keep momentum going.

Hesitation by officers has devastating consequences amongst soldiers. They will sense when their officers are in disarray and feel the doom advancing.

It is my professional opinion as an internet linguist that if professors want a specific style of email from their students they must teach it to them in class (or at least explain it on their websites).

Yes, even upper level courses. See this thread for why.
We never expected students to "just know" how to write a memo or a business letter or a resume. I was taught these things explicitly.
In the evolving norms days of the nineties and early 2000s, it might have been justified to think that emails were something that didn't need teaching.

(And yet I was still fortunate to have my mom help me draft high-stakes emails for e.g. job applications.)

#1. If a BIPOC person criticizes whiteness or white people, they’re talking about the construct of whiteness, white supremacy, white supremacist behaviour & institutions. If you & others don’t do the thing described, DO NOT go “not all white people”. They know it’s not all of us.
#2. Systemic racism. The institutions (e.g. police, law courts, schools), behaviours, societal assumptions, discrimination, lack of representation in media, stereotypes, and other systems that oppress BIPOC people.
