I die a little inside every time I have to decline a convention invite, especially since there are so many I've never been to, but I would die a LOT outside if I accepted them all.
This is actually the place where I can see my novels and my comic work clashing the most: lit cons tend to invite a year+ out, while trade shows are running at like...six months? At best?
So half the time, by the time a trade show says anything to me, I'm already booked somewhere else, or having a rare moment at home before running off to the next thing someone booked a year ago.
(Mind you, I would accept an invite from SDCC literally any time before the hotel scramble because the hotel scramble is hell I HATE THE HOTEL SCRAMBLE MORE THAN I HATE SURPRISE FIRE ANTS.)
(I would probably sleep in a haunted boat that was actively bleeding from the walls and muttering threats if it meant getting out of the hotel scramble.)
"Seanan, the house is literally telling us to get out."
"Show the house the waiting room."
"...the house says we can say and wants to know if you need a hug."
"Yes. Yes, I do."
My agent says I can't accept guaranteed SDCC hotel rooms in lieu of payment but has she considered the hotel scramble is worse than surprise fire ants IN MY LITERAL BED WHILE I AM ALSO IN IT.
...this got away from me a little bit. In other news, the SDCC hotel scramble is approaching, people are asking me if I'll be there, and my "yes" is still conditional until I know I have a room. So this is Seanan's Special Time.
