“The skills we’re developing will underpin the nuclear industry and drive regional economic growth.

“We’re investing in skills and education to deliver long term, sustainable growth.”

“Where skills gaps have appeared we’ve always moved swiftly to address them by investing in skills development.

“I urge the private sector in the north to step up and do the same.

“If it’s not going to be us that do it then who?”

“Not enough people in our communities prize education.

“We have to challenge and change that.

“Industry has to care what’s going on around it.

“How can it be right for a business to be successful while everything around it fails?

“In the north we have to stop blaming others for our failures.”

“I’d like to see greater flexibility and accessibility in higher education.

“I don’t think there are sufficient links between our universities and businesses, particularly in high growth sectors.

“I think two year degrees should be the norm, three years is too long.”

“We need to understand the skills gap locally.

“We don’t know what skills are going to be required for the next industrial revolution and I don’t think we’re anywhere near that.”
