Paul Manafort's lawyers have filed a sentencing memo in his Virginia case. They say "he accepts the jury’s verdict, and is truly remorseful for his conduct," and deserves a sentence "substantially below" the 19.5 to 24 years in prison called for by federal guidelines.
Manafort's lawyers are sharply critical of Mueller's office, which they accuse of "a pattern of spreading misinformation about Mr. Manafort to impugn his character in a manner that this country has not experienced in decades."
(The footnote cites an article written by Spiro Agnew's lawyer.)
Today's sentencing memo is largely similar to the one his lawyers filed in D.C. lat week. In many places, it's word-for-word identical. The difference is that in a few places it ratchets up its criticism of the special counsel.
