The Democrat Party is not going to war against anti-Semitism. That would be tantamount to stabbing itself in the heart.
The Democrat coalition is composed of identity groups that hate each other, and they're all scrambling to reach the top of the victimhood totem pole. There are two strings holding it together. The big, obvious, openly-stated one is hatred of white men. Anti-Semitism is the other.
Not every Democrat identity group is interested in anti-Semitism; liberal Jews are one of those groups. But quite a few of the newer, rowdier, imported identity blocs are anti-Semitic. You can see from the panicked response of Democrat leaders that they underestimated this.
And then there's the shadowy twin of anti-Semitism, the loathing of Israel. Many lefties hate Israel because they bought into the "oppressed brown people" mythology of the Palestinians. It's a pervasive theme in left-wing culture.
Other lefties despise Israel simply because the group they REALLY hate, the evangelical Christian Right, supports it.
Add the hardcore anti-Semites to the fashionable anti-Israel contingent and you have a formidable current of left-wing thought, made stronger during the Obama years by his pursuit of the Iran nuclear deal and long-running feud with Netanyahu.
No way are Democrat leaders going after anti-Semitism in a way that could unravel their power coalition. They are not going to tug very hard on that knot. They'll punt and hope their media changes the subject. /end
