My latest: It's time to change liberal discourse about Hamas and Palestinian resistance electronicintifada.net/content/its-ti…
So the cause became #IStandWithIlhan while @IlhanMN simultaneously doubles down on demonizing Palestinian resistance and praising Israel under pressure from the lobby! I reaffirm all my criticisms of her in the article above. Her latest comments are awful! news.yahoo.com/pelosi-seeks-t…
I stand with @IlhanMN as I stand with anyone under racist attack. But I do not stand with her comments attacking Palestinian resistance as “terrorist” and implicitly praising Israel. She must withdraw these reprehensible anti-Palestinian comments.

#Resistance family: I pretty much dropped off of twitter for a couple weeks, dealing with personal shit and trying to check my rage and restlessness with the status quo. And, of course, everything is worse now, and in a couple more weeks, it will be even more worse. 1/
I'm tired. Of the fact that this Administration continues to defile our country with impunity. Tired of racists (becoming more emboldened by the day). Tired of cops getting away with (literally) murder. Tired of human beings being locked in cages like animals. 2/
I'm tired of the fact that brown Americans are made to feel as though they're not Americans (even those born here). It makes me tired that, as each day brings us closer to school starting, my stomach ties into knots, thinking about what could happen to my children there, 3/

@LindseyGrahamSC @realDonaldTrump @IlhanMN #Israel is a theocratic apartheid military police state.

People are segregated and one segment of people are reduced to living in dire conditions, suffer human rights abuses and abject poverty. They are beaten back by the military when trying to assert their freedom.
@LindseyGrahamSC @realDonaldTrump @IlhanMN Why we would support ANY theocracy I have no idea, but we also support #SaudiArabia, a theocratic monarchy.

It doesn't make sense, if we support theocracies, why isn't #Iran our ally? Did we have to pick a side and decide to go with Sunnis instead of Shiites?
@LindseyGrahamSC @realDonaldTrump @IlhanMN If the United States separates Church and State according to our constitution, and is devoted to promoting democracy worldwide, we should not be ignoring our values in order to create alliances. If they want to be allies, these countries can change

Comparisons with “lock her up” are important reminders of misogyny, but it is IMPERATIVE to understand that @IlhanMN is not a powerful, wealthy white woman like Hillary Clinton. Ilhan Omar is a Black Muslim woman in hijab & former refugee. Racism, misogyny, xenophobia,Islamophobia
When Trump incited mob to yell “lock her up,” the misogyny was awful but you knew that the Democratic Party establishment was there for Clinton.
When Trump incites mob to yell “send her back,”who is there for @IlhanMN when Pelosi & party establishment are shamefully acquiescent?
Hillary Clinton is a former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State who ran for president of the USA.
@IlhanMN is a former refugee who is one of the 1st two Muslim congresswomen. She is a Black Muslim woman in hijab in a deeply racist, misogynist, and Islamophobic country.

I've been saying all along that if you think they're gonna stop with undocumented immigrants or non-citizens from "certain countries" then you're just being naïve. Well, here we are. #IStandWithIlhan
The President of the United States inciting an angry white mob calling for the illegal deportation of a naturalized U.S. citizen -- a Muslim woman of color 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 -- should make it clear enough where this is going.
The silence from so-called "good Republicans" doing nothing abt the white supremacist rot at the core of their party (plus centrist Dems who fell all over themselves to denounce @IlhanMN a few months ago) should give you an idea how much injustice we're capable of rationalizing.

You don't have to be Muslim to stand against Islamophobia. Your response towards Anti- Muslim hate should never be "I'm not Muslim" but rather HATE in ALL its forms is WRONG.

(& If you don't have a Muslim friend welcome to follow me)
It is beyond time to stop using Muslim and Terrorism synonymously

I am not going to share video of that fascist fuck inciting a mob into a frenzy against Ilhan Omar but understand this:
- “Lock her up” vs Hillary Clinton
- “Send her back” vs Ilhan Omar
AND Ilhan Omar is in much greater danger:
- Woman
- Black
- Muslim and in hijab
The more US media refuse to call Trump what he is, the more Congress refuses to hold Trump accountable, the freer he is to endanger the congresswomen of colour ESPECIALLY Ilhan Omar because she is what his racist base hate the most: Black Muslim woman in hijab.

This is what happens when white nationalism infuses immigration policy.

Looking at you, @FAIRImmigration, @CIS_org, and @numbersusa
Lawmakers must stop inviting and listening to these groups. They are mouthpieces for white nationalism, not a legitimate "opposing viewpoint."

They've created a framework for immigration discourse built on "fear of an invasion."

That's textbook white nationalism.
When I called the out in this video, they accused me of being an operative for the Qatari government paid to meddle in the midterms.

Paranoid much?

That's also textbook white nationalism.

You are literally using 9/11 for a political attack right now.
I live in New York City. I could smell the smoke from the towers in my living room on September 11th. The problem with Trump's tweet wasn't that it showed insufficient "reverence" to 9/11. It was that he incited Islamophobic violence against a political opponent.
If you're going to defend Ilhan Omar, defend her. Say her name. Say what the president did to her. Say why what he did was wrong. #IStandWithIlhan

I’ve been trying to find words for the past 13h, but I’m in utter awe of this moment in history.

We are witnessing the rise of fascism in the United States, and signal Dem Party leadership is choosing to send to Trump and his supporters is we will stay silent and do nothing.
This is not the first time GOP or Trump has vilified @IlhanMN and it will not be the last. I’ve lost all hope that our elected leadership cares at this point.

It was clear before, but it is reaffirmed in moments like these. @IlhanMN @RashidaTlaib are the future of this country.
#IStandWithIlhan and will dedicate my time towards electing a new generation of leadership like her. She is our north star. This moment demands political courage, moral clarity, and visionary leadership.

We know what we stand for. Do you @SpeakerPelosi @SenSchumer @LeaderHoyer?

The GOP, Trump, Jr., and others are openly engaging in targeted harassment of Representative @IlhanMN, and I see no evidence of any attempts to stop these precursors of violence. Is there nothing @TheDemocrats, @TheDemCoalition, and @SpeakerPelosi can do? This needs addressing!
Here's the latest. I know things are crazy right now, but this has to be addressed even so.

So the House passed a resolution Condemning all forms of bigotry.

It took a BLACK MUSLIM FEMALE REFUGEE to do it. But they didn't do it without vilifying her and falsely labeling her as an antisemite. Oh, and 23 Republicans voted against this resolution.

#IStandWithIlhan
There was no anti-hate Resolution when Donald Trump said
- Muslim are Terrorist. Islam Hates us.
- Mexicans are Rapist and Criminals.
- Nazis chanting Jews will not replace us "very fine people" - Not Anti-Semitism
- Black men kneeling against police brutality "Sons of Bi*tch"
Or
-when he mocked and made fun of a disable man
-his blantant misgyony
-his Homophobia/ transphobia

1. You know whose statements were hurtful?

Jim Jordan’s and Donald Trump’s anti-Semitic statements. They were hurtful. nytimes.com/2019/02/12/us/…

I would support a House Resolution on Anti-Semitism. Do you want to know what else I would support? Read on.

(Thread)
2. I’d also support congress in passing a resolution against Islamophobia in government. Muslims have borne attacks from Steve King, Donald Trump, and sooooo many others—including a ban on entering our nation from many Muslim-majority nations.

Remember when Trump RT’d these?
3. I’d also support a resolution condemning hate toward the Latinx community, who bears the brunt of the hateful and dishonest statements coming out of the executive branch.

In our latest Just World Podcasts episode @helenacobban reflects on her interview with a former Exec. Director of #AIPAC. He was having second thoughts about his work there. Listen to the whole episode here and read an excerpt below: buzzsprout.com/2366/976358-st… #StandWithIlhan

Lots of Jews (including those in major leadership positions) don’t really understand Islamophobia, and say things or act in ways (sometimes out of ignorance, sometimes intentionally) that are Islamophobic.

I’m interested in how we all learn more together, how we work to build relationships that matter, how we learn to understand the particular hatreds and traumas and attacks that can look really different, but are often coming from the same people.

1. I haven't told my story for awhile about how the Israeli government tried to intimidate me.

In 2010, I wrote a story for the Village Voice about a young woman named Emily Henochowicz, a Jewish American college student who was studying art at Cooper Union.
2. Emily was really bright and interesting and, as an artist, she was obsessed with eyeballs—she drew them, she loved them, and she even went out on Halloween as a giant eyeball.
3. Well, Emily decided to do a semester abroad at the Cooper Union's program in Tel Aviv, where she became dismayed at the conditions of the Palestinians and especially at the separation wall when she saw them up close.

I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT:
According to many non-Jewish right-wingers & establishment dems, it has come to my attention that I (as a Jew) must be anti-Semitic b/c I criticize Israeli policies like @IlhanMN. Sorry to my other anti-Semitic Jewish brothers & sisters. #IStandWithIlhan
Let me ask this to my fellow Jews: Do you support what the leader of Israel is doing? Does he represent the values and beliefs of the Jewish people who had been and continue to be marginalized and persecuted around the world by fascists & nationalists?
Are you familiar with @netanyahu and how he is becoming alarmingly close with neo-fascists and Holocaust revisionists? Do you support that as Jew? thedailybeast.com/netanyahus-neg…

Are they kidding? Instead of building unity within the party in the run up to the 2020 election, Dem leadership would rather divide and censure. #IStandWithIlhan
Where were their resolutions over the years for the avowed white supremacist Steve King? Or all the birthers in both houses who spent 8 years attacking Obama's Americanness based on his Blackness and percieved foreign Muslim-ness?
Omar is being put through the ringer by her own party because she's Black, visibly Muslim, & speaks with an accent. Dems love using Muslim immigrant refugees as props in their diversity talking points not as legislators with a voice in the House.

- Women of colour questioning the power and unchallenged entitlement of white men -

THAT is at the heart of just about every headline and “controversy” involving newly elected representatives to the US Congress.
That is why I wrote this soon after they were elected about importance of @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib - women of colour, first Muslim women in US Congress who before they even entered the House, had a proud history of talking back to Trump google.com/amp/s/www.nbcn… #IStandWithIlhan
Remember when Trump said this of Ghazala Khan: "His wife… if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say...She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.” i.e. Muslim women were silenced.
Well, @IlhanMN OWNS her voice When Trump was still just the Republican nominee for president, the American Muslim father of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq launched a scathing critique of Trump’s vow to bar Muslims from the U.S. Standing with his wife Ghazala by his side at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Khizr Khan rebuked Trump by offering to lend him a copy of the U.S. Constitution.

To so many of us, @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib’s election to the US Congress was of immense importance. I stand in support of, Congresswoman Omar and I send solidarity to my sister Ilhan who I have had the honour to communicate with in love and sisterhood. We are many with you!
Congresswoman @IlhanMN is the first Somali American, first Muslim refugee, first hijab-wearing Muslim woman and the first woman of color to represent Minnesota elected to the #US Congress. I stand in solidarity with her. She makes many of us proud. #StandWithIlhan
