2. One of our clients has a sick baby. The baby had diarrhea every day he was detained till Fri. Your medical team suggested he force feed his child.

3. You told our client today you'll release him. Clearly our pressure got to you 😳
4. Pre the Flores agreement, the baby should have not been detained for 20+ days in the first place and same goes for the rest of the families we filed a complaint about last week: raicestexas.org/2019/03/13/rai…

Families still detained need to be released.
5. You say your centers are "clean, well-organized, & efficiently run."

The U.S. is engaged in "forever wars" around the world yet we refuse to accept responsibility for our actions and grant refugees asylum.

Since Trump took office, we've been granting fewer refugee applications.

This is a total disgrace.
The U.S. hasn't been very welcoming to refugees in comparison to other large nations, such as Germany and Lebanon.

Congress is taking action.

After our complaint to DHS that families w/kids were held at Karnes past 20 days allowed under Flores, 17 members of @HispanicCaucus like @JoaquinCastrotx, @RepRaulGrijalva, & @AOC are telling DHS to release families.

We need to get these families released, & further we need to END FAMILY DETENTION once & for all.

It's monstrous that we lock up parents & children for seeking better lives. No moral, modern society should do so.

A mother w/her child trekking to the border, no clue about family separation, arriving & jailed in a detention center, where she says "inside every cell" there was crying.

We're torturing families for wanting better lives.

Elsa, the mother, was deported while her son, Anthony, was kept in a Houston shelter.

Even though the Trump administration said there was no family separation policy.

She was alone in Guatemala, without her child, unsure what to do. She got calls from him, but that's it.
Three MONTHS later, Anthony was flown to Guatemala. They were reunited in the airport, mother bawling.

We continue to see scenes like this in the States, like what happened w/baby Juliet in San Francisco, even though Trump said he ended family separation. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/articl…

Have you ever heard or witnessed where a child/baby is being force fed?

Please stop it if you do it. And encourage anyone around you as well.

Force feeding is unsafe. It can make a child aspirate- meaning food goes into the lungs instead of the stomach.

This can lead to death.
Aspiration is serious. It can cause severe chest infection in a child which can lead to hospitalisation for days and eventually the death of the child.

I know many of us have seen old women especially in rural areas do it, but next time you witness such, please educate them.
At the back of our throats is two channels- one way to the lungs and another way to the stomach.

So What happens normally is that when we eat food or drink milk normally, the epiglottis covers the way to the lungs so that the food can go into our stomach.
